Site Name: London The Stanley Building Posted Date: May 5 2023 AI/ML Engineer - Sequence Learning At GSK we see a world in which advanced applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) will allow us to develop novel therapies to existing diseases and to quickly respond to emerging or changing diseases with personalized drugs, driving better outcomes at reduced cost with fewer side effects. It is an ambitious vision that will require the development of products and solutions at the cutting edge of AI/ML. If that excites you, we'd love to chat. The AI/ML Sequence Learning Team applies machine learning and AI methods to biological sequence (DNA, RNA, protein) data from large-scale human genetic, functional genomic and single cell experiments. Models operating directly on sequence data that can infer how variants alter protein/RNA abundance, structure and function have the potential to be transformative in drug discovery, empowering us to find new life saving medicines. We're looking for a highly accomplished AI/ML Engineer to help us make this vision a reality. Competitive candidates will have a track record of shipping high performing AI/ML powered products in production environments. They are highly accomplished Machine Learning Engineers, with breadth across machine learning methods, as well as depth in at least one area. Additionally, they are accomplished software engineers with a track record of shipping stable, tested, performant code and services in an agile environment. Strong candidates will have graduate studies in computer science, applied mathematics, or the equivalent, and a passion for solving challenging problems in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Educational or professional background in the biological sciences is a plus; passion to help therapies for new and existing diseases, and a pattern of continuous learning and development is mandatory. The AI/ML team is built on the principles of ownership, accountability, continuous development, and collaboration. We hire for the long term, and we're motivated to make this a great place to work. Our leaders will be committed to your career and development from day one. We're combining the power of genetic and genomic insights into what causes disease, with the speed and scale of AI/ML to make better predictions about who a treatment might work for, and why. We believe this powerful combination of data and technology holds the key to fundamentally transforming medical discovery for the better, improving R&D success rates and shaping how even the most challenging diseases, like neurological conditions and cancer, can be both prevented and treated. In 2021 we delivered four major product approvals: Cabenuva for HIV, Jemperli for endometrial cancer, Xevudy for COVID-19 and Apretude, our new long-acting medicine for HIV prevention. Find out more: Our approach to R&D In this role you will Use your expertise in machine learning, software engineering and genomics to deliver AI/ML-powered services and libraries Work closely with subject matter experts in human genetics to conceive, plan and execute novel AI/ML solutions to key drug discovery problems Leverage the expertise of more senior team mates to continuously develop understanding of scientific, machine learning and software engineering best practice in the organisation, to construct robust, tested, production-grade software products with well-characterised performance and limitations Fully participate in the scientific and engineering culture of the Sequence Learning Team, as a code reviewer and collaborator Continuously develop expertise in a fast-moving and intellectually challenging (but highly rewarding) scientific space Exhibit excellent self-management and communication skills, taking full ownership and working transparently to deliver objectives to specification and on time Closing Date for Applications: 25/01/23 (COB) Please take a copy of the Job Description, as this will not be available post closure of the advert.
