Advanced Nurse Practitioner/Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner(Annex 21) - Flow Navigation Centre

Job details

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is 10:00-22:00, Monday to Sunday.

This is an exciting time for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who is interested in a modern and challenging opportunity to consider a role in the NHSGGC Flow Navigation Centre (FNC). We are expanding our nursing team and we have opportunities for experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners to bring existing advanced assessment and patient management skills to our virtual service. We are very interested in hearing from qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioners who have experience in either Emergency Medicine, Minor Injuries, Adult Acute Care, Primary Care, or Acute Paediatric care.

This post is also open to Registered Nurses (Adult) with senior clinical decision making experience as a trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner on annex 21 terms and conditions.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work to high clinical standards in a fast paced environment. You will be flexible, forward thinking and able to work effectively within a changing and dynamic digital environment.

Qualified ANPs who wish to retain an element of face-to-face clinical practice are welcome to apply as we are open to exploring face-to-face clinical practice within a relevant clinical team as part of a job plan.

Successful candidates will join a small but motivated team of ANPs, lead ANPs, and medical colleagues with wide ranging experience in Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, Minor Injuries and Paediatrics.

Successful candidates will be encouraged and empowered to achieve their full potential across all pillars of advanced practice, with mentorship and line management provided by a senior ANP team.

There are several work streams currently within the Flow Navigation Centre:

Virtual A&E

Our Virtual A&E work stream accepts A&E referrals from other healthcare practitioners. Patients aged 5 and over are assessed via video consultation and can have their entire care managed remotely if appropriate. Otherwise, the FNC will seek to schedule the required urgent care episode to optimise the patient experience whilst visiting a physical health care facility.

Call Before Convey

Advanced Nurse Practitioners in the FNC work in conjunction with Advanced Practitioners from the Scottish Ambulance Service to provide secondary care advice and support to Paramedics and Ambulance Technicians. This is a developing work stream with the aim of achieving the right care in the right place for the patient, reducing conveyance to the Emergency Department through the provision of senior clinical advice.

Medical Pathways

We have recently launched the first of our acute medical pathways which aims to schedule care for patients with low risk chest pain in a Same Day Urgent Care centre rather than the Emergency Department. This is a growing work stream which in time will likely encompass primary care referrals and grow to cover other acute medical presentations and acute services.

Care Home Falls

This very successful work stream provides care homes and nursing homes within NHSGGC direct access to the ANP team in the FNC. The ANP will support care staff over video consultation to provide initial assessment and management of residents who have fallen in the care home. As with the virtual A&E service, the patient can have their entire care managed remotely if appropriate. Otherwise, the FNC will seek to schedule the required urgent care episode to optimise the patient experience whilst visiting a physical health care facility.

The Flow Navigation Centre is currently operational 10 am to 10pm 7 days with a mix of shifts and will evolve to a 24 hour requirement.

If you want to be part of the revolutionary way Urgent Care is delivered in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde then we welcome your application.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged. By submitting your application, you confirm that all answers are your own work, reflect your personal knowledge, skills and experience, and have not been solely produced or altered by AI or similar technologies.

Failure to comply with this requirement may result in your application being withdrawn from the application process.

For application portal/log-in issues, please contact in the first instance.
