Band 7 (Annexe 21 training post)

37 hours per week, Monday-Friday 08.30-16.30

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen within The Laser Service at Plastic Surgery Out Patient Department, Burns and Plastics Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Royal Hospital for Children. This is a trainee post (Annex 21) over two years.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join our innovative, forward thinking and friendly team. We are looking for a health practitioner who wants the opportunity to develop and consolidate their knowledge in this highly specialist field.

After completing the Advanced Clinical Nurse Programme (60 credits) and the work based laser learning modules (60 credits) you will have the skills and knowledge to make complex clinical decisions using expert clinical judgement, you will be in command of a broad expert knowledge base and clinical competences with expert knowledge in Laser therapies, Laser conditions and Multiple Laser Systems. You will work autonomously within the nursing and multi- professional team to ensure a high standard of care to a diverse patient group and competently perform the necessary technical/invasive/physical aspects of care for this defined group of service users. You will support the Lead Laser NP in the day to day running of the department and deputise in their absence.

The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator and will be responsible for providing direct patient care, lifestyle health and promotion advise and support their psychological needs during their laser surgery. The successful candidate will also provide education to pre and post nurses and medical staff.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
