Job Title: Estimator / Quantity Surveyor – Construction & AI Innovation

Location: Oxford, UK

Salary: £55,000 – £75,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience)

Job Type: Permanent

Are you an experienced Estimator or Quantity Surveyor looking to future proof your career? Do you want to be at the forefront of the biggest technological shift in the construction industry?

We are representing a highly respected and innovative residential contractor based in Oxford. While they pride themselves on traditional building excellence, they are aggressively looking to the future, specifically, the integration of Artificial Intelligence within their commercial and construction models.

This is a rare opportunity to bridge the gap between core commercial construction and cutting edge construction technology.

The AI Vision

Our client has identified AI as a major growth engine for their business. They are heavily investing in integrating AI into their workflows, from automated take-offs and predictive cost modeling to smart supply chain management.

You do not need to be a software developer. However, you must have a genuine enthusiasm for technology and a strong desire to learn, pilot, and master new AI tools that will revolutionise how estimating and surveying are done.

The Role

As an Estimator / Quantity Surveyor, you will handle traditional commercial duties while acting as a champion for new tech adoption. Your responsibilities will include:

*

Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, BOQs, and tender submissions for upcoming residential projects.

*

Managing project costs, valuations, and variations from inception to final accounts.

*

Collaborating with the commercial team to pilot and implement AI-driven estimating and surveying software.

*

Analysing historical project data to help "train" or fine tune predictive AI models for future developments.

*

Liaising with sub-contractors, suppliers, and site teams to ensure profitable and timely project delivery.

Who We Are Looking For

*

Experience: Proven background as an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor within the UK construction industry (residential developer or main contractor experience is highly preferred).

*

Core Skills: Strong commercial acumen, excellent numeracy, and a solid grasp of construction methods, contracts, and materials.

*

The X-Factor: A tech savvy mindset. You are curious about Artificial Intelligence, eager to learn, and excited by the idea of ditching outdated spreadsheets for next generation automated workflows.

*

Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to negotiate with suppliers and present commercial data to directors.

Salary & Benefits Package

In addition to a competitive base salary of £55,000 – £75,000, the successful candidate will receive:

*

Car Allowance / Company Vehicle: £5,000 annual allowance or equivalent company car.

*

Bonus Scheme: Performance related annual bonus based on project profitability and tech implementation milestones.

*

Tech & Training Budget: Dedicated funding for AI, software, and commercial training to keep you at the cutting edge.

*

Pension Scheme: Enhanced company pension contributions (up to 8%).

*

Flexible Working: Hybrid working model with options to work from home.

*

Annual Leave: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
