We’re Atom…

The bank that’s on a mission to make finance faster, simpler and way more human.

We’ve ditched the stuffy banking model to build something that actually works for our customers, whenever and wherever they need us.

To make this happen, we’re looking for like-minded people who can help us reach our goals and think differently.

We really value in-person collaboration so this role requires weekly time in our Newcastle office.

What will your typical day look like?

Atom is looking for a Commercial Data Scientist to bridge the gap between our Data Science and Commercial Savings teams.

You won’t just be crunching numbers in a silo. Reporting to the Head of Savings, you will use sophisticated statistical modelling to understand customer deposit behavior, build price elasticity models, and directly inform our pricing and brand strategies. We need a storyteller who codes - someone who can build robust machine learning models and then clearly explain the "why" to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Behavioural & Pricing Models: Design and develop sophisticated pricing and elasticity models to inform product development and competitive positioning.
  • Forecasting & Production: Develop robust forecasting models for deposit balances and successfully deploy them into production environments.
  • Commercial Impact:Identify stable funding sources to optimise the bank's funding mix and support regulatory liquidity.
  • Translating Data: Act as the bridge between technical and commercial teams, synthesising complex data into actionable insights for leadership.

What do we need from you?

  • Deep proficiency inPython or Rfor statistical modelling and data manipulation.
  • Proven experience not just building models on a desktop, but deploying them into production environments using software best practices.
  • You ask "why," challenge the status quo, and look beyond the surface of the data.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex statistical concepts for a non-technical audience.
  • Financial services experience is great, but not required. If you have consumer pricing or elasticity experience from retail, telecoms, or other regulated industries, we want to hear from you.

What will you get from us?

  • Salary up to £45k
  • Flexible hybrid working in Newcastle
  • 4-day work week
  • Discretionary cash bonus
  • Incredibly generous company pension scheme (maximum of 13% of Atom input – candidate can put in more) 22.5 days annual leave plus public holiday
  • Private Medical Insurance, Health Cash Plan, Life Insurance & Critical illness cover
  • £200 “All about me” fund
  • EV Scheme

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
