About us:

Do you like connecting with people and different organizations? An exciting and challenging opportunity is available for an engineering or computer science student to work within Advanced Capabilities for Digital Airframe. The successful candidate will contribute to developing and employing multiple engineering and digitalization tools in a diverse global and collaborative environment. As Advanced Capabilities for Digital Airframe, we enable Airframe engineering with advanced methods and emerging technologies such as AI, modeling and simulation, to achieve greater performance and efficiency. Our methods and tools are used for designing, developing our aircraft products at all phases of their lifecycle. Specifically, you will be joining the Applied AI Methods & Services team. We are a diverse, international, multi-skilled team of around 15 engineers who are data scientists, technical experts and engineers of various experience. We provide innovative digital solutions to meet airframe business needs, including but not limited to web services, data science solutions, and Machine Learning solutions.

What will you be doing:

The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills (technical, project management, programming, and communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully. You will: 

  • Develop Process, Method and Tools (PM&T) initiatives directed towards engineering development, plant engineering & ramp up, standardization and quality, multi-component Assembly; 

  • Investigate available data to solve problems; 

  • Attend team meetings, review outstanding actions, representation at local and transnational meetings and forums etc; 

  • Perform support, coaching and awareness sessions, benchmarks, validation and acceptance as well as performance tests of new Process, Method and Tools; 

  • Develop innovative digital solutions with the help from experts and specialists on different business topics.

You will join the Applied AI Methods & Services team at Filton and be responsible for the development and support of Airframe related Process, Methods and Tools activities related to digital solutions for the Airframe community that are in-service, under development and planned for the future. This will involve extensive collaboration with the wider Airbus community.

Requirements:

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Studying towards a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent; 

  • Interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; 

  • Experience in data preparation and cleaning, data visualisation (such as graphics and dashboards), and statistics; 

  • Knowledge of some programming skills, such as (but not limited to) Python, numpy, scipy, matplotlib, opencv, tensorflow, pandas, pyspark; 

  • Nice to have software management skills, such as Git and GitHub; 

  • Flexible, engaged and curious; 

  • Autonomous, self-empowered and team Player; 

  • Problem solving; 

  • Negotiation level of English, both written and spoken. 

SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
