AI Software Engineer – Machine Vision

We are looking for an AI Software Engineer to develop software and artificial intelligence models, primarily for machine vision applications.

Combining software engineering with applied AI, you will help turn visual data into practical capabilities and integrate those capabilities into reliable applications. The role offers hands-on involvement across development, testing, integration and performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain software using C++, C# and Python, selecting the appropriate language for each component.
  • Develop, evaluate and improve machine vision models and image-processing algorithms.
  • Prepare and validate image datasets for model training and testing.
  • Integrate AI models into software applications and processing pipelines.
  • Investigate model accuracy, inference speed, memory usage and application performance.
  • Develop automated tests for software components and AI functionality.
  • Diagnose issues involving image quality, model behaviour and software integration.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to translate application requirements into working solutions.
  • Document technical decisions, evaluation results and implementation details.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Commercial software development experience, with strong capability in one or more of C++, C# and Python.
  • Practical experience developing computer vision, machine learning or image-processing solutions.
  • An understanding of model training, validation and evaluation.
  • The ability to write maintainable code and apply sound testing and debugging practices.
  • Experience integrating algorithms or models into usable software.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to investigate complex technical problems.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working across C++, C# and Python.
  • Familiarity with OpenCV and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Object detection, image classification, segmentation or visual inspection applications.
  • Real-time processing, GPU acceleration or deployment to edge devices.
  • Model optimisation and inference tools, such as ONNX or TensorRT.
  • Experience working with cameras, video streams or hardware interfaces.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD and AI-assisted coding tools.

What You Will Contribute

You will help deliver machine vision solutions that perform reliably beyond the development environment, with a focus on accuracy, speed and maintainable software.

Benefits:

  • Hybrid / Remote working
  • Excellent career progression to lead an AI Team
  • + other benefits

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
