AI & Automation Developer
Circa £60,000 | Nottinghamshire

Enjoy using AI to turn ideas into working applications? Want the freedom to explore different tools and build solutions that make a difference?

I'm working with an established business looking for an AI & Automation Developer to help build applications, automate processes and improve how the business operates. There's plenty to get stuck into, with an ongoing pipeline of development work and opportunities to bring your own ideas to the table.

AI-assisted development will be central to the role. You'll explore which tools are worth using and apply them to speed up analysis, prototyping, coding, testing and documentation. You'll have a say in how the business uses AI and where it can deliver real value.

They're open on your technical background. You won't be tied to one platform or expected to use the same software for every challenge. They want someone who can take a business problem, explore the options, recommend an approach and then get on with building it.

That could mean developing a web application, creating a database-backed tool, connecting systems or automating a process that currently takes hours. There's also scope to modernise existing applications and introduce better ways of working across the business.

You'll work directly with users, ask questions and take ownership from the initial idea through to implementation. You'll need to bring people with you, explain your thinking and help them get value from what you deliver. You'll also have the confidence to challenge requests and explain when a different approach makes more sense.

I'm looking for someone with practical development or automation experience who is already using AI tools such as Cursor, Claude or Copilot to build things. You should be able to review and test what those tools produce, with security, data protection and reliability built into your approach.

Database, integration and web development experience would be useful. Above all, I'd like to see examples of what you've delivered. A portfolio, personal projects or business applications you can talk through would be a great starting point.

This is a chance to shape a new role within an existing IT team, influence the technology being used and see your ideas put into practice. You'll have variety, ownership and room to experiment.

Circa £60k, based on site - or hybrid (a couple of days from home per week) in Nottinghamshire.

Interested? Drop me a message and I'll talk you through it confidentially.

What Is an AI Forward Deployed Engineer? The Fastest-Growing Job in AI for 2026

If you have been watching AI job boards over the past year, one title keeps surfacing again and again: the forward deployed engineer, or FDE. It has gone from a niche term known mainly to Palantir alumni to arguably the hottest role in the entire AI hiring market. Job postings for forward deployed engineers have exploded, salaries have climbed past levels most software engineers will ever see, and the biggest names in AI — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Salesforce, Databricks and Palantir — are all competing for the same small pool of talent. So what exactly is an AI forward deployed engineer, why has demand surged so dramatically, and how do you position yourself to land one of these roles? This guide breaks it all down for AI engineers, software engineers and data scientists looking at their next move.
