Role Summary

This position will be responsible for providing technical thought leadership, tactical advice, and strategic direction to the Central platform UI design team. Provide hands-on guidance and support to designers, developers, UX team and product managers throughout the full product delivery cycle. Align this work with Sophos's strategic goals across all Central hosted applications across the entire product portfolio, considering the Adaptive Cybersecurity Ecosystem (ACE) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) paradigms. Leverage insights from Threat Intelligence, Labs, Data Science, and Managed Threat Response teams to drive significantly differentiated, industry-leading user experiences. This position reports to the Chief Architect.

What You Wil Do

Define the Central platform UI architectural vision for product teams and influence teams to ensure releases align with that vision.  Ensure the UI integrates seamlessly with the broader "ACE" architecture for data ingestion, processing, access, policy, APIs, and telemetry.  Provide technical leadership within Sophos by identifying and guiding individuals to understand end-to-end product development, uncover true user requirements, and help engineering build the right features with optimal usability.  Significantly impact future products and technologies, and business strategies by providing long-term UI direction and vision, and generating creative solutions that enable innovative ways of executing on Sophos's opportunities.  Drive strategic and tactical innovation in UI design, working closely with the products teams, UX teams, Threat Intelligence, Machine Learning and DevOps, to ensure a cohesive and differentiated user experience.  Work directly with development teams, writing code when necessary, to drive the creation of feature-rich, industry-leading products with exceptional usability and intuitiveness.  Collaborate with UX team to and engineering leads to define, support, and influence standard UI/UX design practices, quality assurance, and engineering rigor for secure cloud-based development.  Build alliances with customers and industry experts Keep abreast of industry UI/UX innovation to gain and share information about emerging UI/UX trends and best practices.  Own the UI architecture review process for Sophos's product lines and continuously improve it.  Influence the roadmaps of key external technology partners, vendors, and standards bodies to shape the future of Sophos's user experiences.  Help engineers identify and articulate patent ideas related to innovative UI/UX concepts.  Anticipate internal and external business and legislative issues impacting Sophos's products and technologies, and apply that understanding to enhance the user experience. 

What You Will Bring

Repeated track record of successfully leading and delivering large complex projects that impact the success of their business unit Defines technical strategies/architecture for multiple functional areas that sometimes extend outside their BU (technical and non-technical) and understands, influences, and creates technical designs for products/features from inception to completion that have impacted many teams/projects across the company and had a direct revenue or profitability impact Proven experience as a UI Architect with a focus on React, Angular Framework and Cloud based development. Balanced architectural needs with business dynamics to ensure commercial viability in development direction and implementation decisions Is a sought-out, respected mentor and technical advisor for Senior Engineers, Senior Managers and above, trained others in best engineering practices for peer review of code, designs, specifications and unit tests Designed and developed complete software features or components, made recommendations to solve product-wide issues and learned hard lessons of what does or doesn’t work over multiple updates and versions Collaborates with other peers and senior leadership across all departments (technical and non-technical) to influence and deliver on Sophos objectives Has held teams to high-standards and made significant improvements to the quality of processes or deliverables Developed advanced/leading-edge technologies and/or concepts that have applicability within the security industry Enforce coding standards, conduct code reviews, and implement best practices to maintain high quality maintainability code. Ability to influence, coach, and lead by example is critical in this environment, and to be successful in this role. Bachelors of Science in Computer Software, Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience.
