The Role
This is a key role within the Trading Risk and Operations team, you will be responsible for implementing and reporting risk metrics associated with the firm’s trading activities, providing valuable insight to allow the firm to manage risk and make optimal investment decisions. You will also be involved in business-critical risk projects, as well as the establishment and management of risk frameworks for new markets. More detailed responsibilities include:
•Daily monitoring of risk metrics and desk exposures vs. agreed limits
•On-going review and monitoring of the company’s and trading desks’ risk frameworks, including its extension to new markets.
•Producing ad-hoc risk analysis for the team, desks, and senior management.
•Liaising with Trading and Tech teams, to confirm positions and exposures, and supporting daily risk management activities.
•Validating the accuracy and effectiveness of data sources used to produce various risk reports.
•Building and maintaining the company’s risk infrastructure, and ensuring documentation and controls are updated accordingly
•Investigating, when required, abnormal data points by requesting further information from the Trading desks (e.g. hedging strategies), Tech team (e.g. data workflow), Exchange (e.g. Initial margin models), Clearers (e.g. Haircut Model), and other financial counterparties.
•Using a combination of Python, VBA, SQL, Tableau and other coding languages to enhance, automate and visualise key information/metrics sent to Trading and Senior Management.
•Participating in firm-wide initiatives that require a risk management perspective, collaborating with wider teams internally and externally to provide meaningful insights and solutions to meet the company goals.
What You’ll Bring
•A bachelor/master's in a technical field, (e.g., finance, economics, statistics, or other quantitative disciplines).
•A minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in a similar role.
•Prior professional exposure/experience to energy trading (Oil, Gas, Power) via either a proprietary or a liquidity-providing firm (market maker), hedge fund, physical player, etc.
•Previous professional experience/exposure relating to Energy Commodity Futures and Options.
•Advanced coding skills (Python/APIs, SQL, VBA) and a strong understanding of databases.
•Strong knowledge of market risk concepts and models such as VAR, stress-testing, back-testing, and FX hedging strategies.
•Strong communication skills and proven ability to explain complex topics clearly to all audiences, including senior management.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
•Understanding of Exchange risk and margining models.
Desirable
•Currently holding or working towards a professional risk/quantitative certification (CFA, FRM, CQF).
•Previous professional experience with the US Power markets, especially regarding Virtuals and FTRs products.
•Knowledge/experience of any of the following tools/data services: Bloomberg, Platts, Reuters, Trayport, TT, ICE Connect, WebICE, CME Direct, SPAN GUIs.
•Previous experience of valuing options.
