Senior Data Engineer

The Technical Data Scientist plays a crucial role in advancing the data maturity of the Digital department by owning and delivering the group-wide data science roadmap. This role will drive innovation and business impact by leveraging cutting-edge AI, machine learning (ML), and advanced analytics to solve complex challenges.

The Technical Data Scientist will develop, deploy, and optimize scalable data science solutions, including predictive models, AI/ML-powered decision engines, and automation frameworks that deliver measurable commercial value. This includes integrating cloud-based, real-time, and MLOps best practices to ensure robust, production-ready solutions. Leading the end-to-end lifecycle of data science initiatives, this role will take solutions from ideation and prototyping to production deployment, continuous monitoring, and refinement. The Technical Data Scientist will transform complex, unstructured data into actionable insights, communicating findings through data storytelling and visualization to empower stakeholders to make data-driven decisions. Additionally, this role will champion responsible and ethical AI practices, ensuring transparency, fairness, and compliance with evolving industry regulations.

  • Define and own the data science roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities and delivering measurable commercial value to Greene King.
  • Develop, deploy, and scale advanced data science solutions, including predictive models, AI/ML decision engines, and automation frameworks, to drive data-led operational decisions.
  • Implement and oversee robust MLOps practices, ensuring models remain accurate, explainable, and optimized through continuous monitoring, retraining, and refinement.
  • Champion responsible AI and governance, ensuring ethical, fair, and transparent AI/ML practices that align with regulatory requirements and business ethics.
  • Drive business adoption of data-driven insights by translating complex models into clear, compelling stories, enabling non-technical stakeholders to take meaningful action.
  • Foster a data science community across Greene King by collaborating with teams including people analytics, digital analytics, and finance, promoting knowledge-sharing and best practices.
  • Extract actionable insights from large, complex datasets, leveraging cloud-based, scalable computing where applicable.
  • Work cross-functionally with data engineers, analysts, and business leaders to ensure AI/ML models are operationalized and embedded into core business processes, maximizing long-term impact.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant subject e.g. mathematics, statistics, computer science, etc.
  • Best Practice knowledge and experience of Data Science standards and approaches.
  • Expert in Python, SQL and other coding languages and platforms.
  • Expert in statistical and AI modelling and relevant software / platforms.
  • Significant knowledge and Experience in Databricks and Lakehouse concepts.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience across multiple levels of an organisation.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems using data but translate these into easy to understand / digest outputs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex and technical subject matter to non-specialists.
  • Proven ability to spot trends and patterns within data and drive commercial impact / benefit from these.
