We are looking for a Software Developer to join the Leidos National Security & Defence team. This is a new opportunity for a Software Developer to work with our expanding team. Each day will be different, as you develop software and fix bugs through a full development lifecycle, whilst also responding to different customer queries and issues on multiple products.

Your role in Leidos will involve working alongside our customers to solve some of their most complex and unique problems.

What you’ll be doing:

Developing tools and techniques at pace that are mission focused. Generation and management of requirements. Designing technical solutions and providing software development of those solutions. Knowledge of the latest technologies and how they can be applied to complex problems – COTS and specialist hardware, software, security, and networking technologies. System Test and verification activities including test generation, execution, and documentation. System Integration Activities. Most of our solutions are a mixture of hardware and software. You will be required to facilitate the integration throughout the development process. Providing technical leadership of engineering teams by supervising, estimation, progress monitoring and reporting. Adherence to project processes and software development practices·

Our Capability Development team develops bespoke software for our clients in the Cyber Security domain. We specialise in C and C++ and have worked across iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. We emphasise having a comprehensive understanding of the programming languages, platforms, and tooling we rely on.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

C++, Java, Rust: Proficiency in one or more of these programming languages for both application and embedded code development. IDEs and Toolchains: Experience with development tools, integrated development environments (IDEs), and toolchains relevant to development boards. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new technologies and work in a dynamic environment. Experience of Communication Protocols to interface with peripheral devices. Proficiency in coding for embedded systems. Unit Testing: Experience in writing and conducting unit tests for code reliability. Git: Proficient in using version control systems like Git for code collaboration. Problem-Solving: Ability to analyse problems and come up with effective solutions. Communication: Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts and collaborate with team members. Professional experience in the design and implementation of complex solutions, ideally both clean-slate projects and updates to legacy code bases. Comfortable with platform APIs, development environments and native debugging approaches on one or more of: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android. Commitment to code correctness and quality assurance through static analysis, code review, automated testing, and continuous integration.

Desirable

Cryptography: Understanding of encryption algorithms and protocols for securing audio streams. USB Communication: Proficient in interfacing with a computer via USB. Knowledge of USB protocols and device drivers. Wireless Protocols: Understanding of Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth protocols and their standards. Experience of working on secure Government, or MoD IT projects and programmes.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's Degree: A degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred. Professional membership of BCS or IET

Additional Considerations:

Due to the nature of this position, we require you to be eligible to achieve DV clearance. As a result, you should be a British Citizen and have resided in the UK for the last 10 years.
