THE POWER OF NOW

Fortescue Zero’s mission is to be the world leader in zero emission power systems. We are developing and manufacturing the technologies needed to decarbonise our planet. We are expanding across the geographies of UK, US and Australia and becoming a global company. As part of Fortescue, our vision is to be the number one integrated green technology, energy, and metals company.

An opportunity has arisen for a Software Delivery Manager to join the Elysia department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. You will be responsible for delivering customer projects, involved throughout the entire lifecycle of the software projects. You will work closely with the Engineering, Product and Commercial teams to scope the project, create and manage the JIRA plan and ensure delivery on time.

This role is for anyone with proven experience delivering software projects, keen to expand their experience in an agile deep tech start-up environment, with a focus on software development and deployment in an industry critical to a zero-carbon future.

Elysia is principally involved in the development and commercialisation of the Battery Intelligence software, which is revolutionizing the life, safety and performance of battery systems. As a pioneering technology company, we specialize in the development of cutting-edge software solutions that supports, optimises and de-risks the deployment of batteries, from cradle to grave, starting with design and manufacture, through to first-life monitoring and the transition to second-life or recycling.

Our team of brilliant minds and passionate experts is dedicated to pushing the boundaries in software-derived performance, both within embedded BMS and cloud-based domains. We believe in the combination of expertise in electrochemistry, battery systems and data science to build products that empower our customers to unlock the full potential of their battery assets.

How do we work:

Our work culture is built upon collaboration, creativity, and a shared dedication to driving positive change.

We provide an inclusive and dynamic environment with a culture of empowerment. Every team member is encouraged to voice their ideas, take ownership of their projects, and contribute to the collective vision of a greener and more efficient future.

Responsibilities:

You will be involved early in commercial negotiations to feedback on scope timelines and dependencies, working with the technical teams. Once the project is live, you will be responsible for communicating with the customer, organising meetings and workshops, tracking progress, working proactively with relevant stakeholders to make updates to the schedule and you will update senior management on progress.

You will be required to have a detailed understanding of the project, including its aims and requirements and be quality driven. You will be adept at using JIRA and Confluence and will be expected to leverage automations to minimise project admin overhead and increase the speed at which we generate project insights.

Changes to the project schedule are common and customers in our field act very dynamically. As a skilled Delivery Manager, you will be expected to minimize any potential setbacks from such changes by proactively seeking to understand the issues and dependencies.

At every step you will be supported and empowered to make an impact. We are looking for someone excited to work with technical teams and customers to deliver exciting projects.

What you will do:

Have full ownership of delivering software products to your nominated customers.
You will be involved from the early stages of setting up a new project to maintaining the JIRA plan with input from team leads and customers. You will identify resource gaps, track KPIs and budgets, adapt to changes in priority to ensure we deliver high quality solutions and on time.
Engage with stakeholders to develop a clear view of business requirements, manage them and agree with the team leads which tasks will implement the requirements.
Actively keep the plan updated, review estimates as and when new information about the project becomes available. Quantify risks and uncertainties in timing/resource projections.
Agree project timings and sync your plans with the high-level plan. Integrate plan baselines, identify dependencies between projects, resource constrains and minimise the impact of delays.
Support delivering the plan on time and ensure the tasks meet a high standard.
Develop new processes and continuously improve the effectiveness of existing ones. Contribute to the overall governance and help make sure teams are following them.
Leverage JIRA automations to minimise project admin overhead.
Identify and escalate risks. Maintain the risk register, work with the technical leads to mitigate or even eliminate risks before they can impact the project.
Be involved in fault management and resolution. Work with Application and Support Engineers to fix customer issues in a timely manner.
Work with Customer Success Managers to integrate identified pain points from the projects you manage into the Customer Delivery Processes
Prepare and present reports to customers, tracking status, timing, issues and risks.
Build and sustain positive relationships with team members and customers.
Experience & Qualifications:

Our team values a growth mindset over an expansive CV. We encourage you to apply if you have some or all the following:

Experience delivering projects in a fast-paced software/engineering environment.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a STEM field (Software, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or similar) or equivalent experience
Atlassian proficiency. Experienced using modern software project manegement tools such as JIRA and Confluence for planning, automation, reporting and chasing an advantage. Office tools are not used for project management.
Experience working with customers. Able to build and sustain positive relationships.
Be responsive to changes in customer needs and expectations.
Well organised person with strong problem-solving skills.
An awareness of agile methodologies and automotive standards is preferred.
Great communication skills: confidently able to chase internal and external stakeholders for information and keep them accountable to deadlines.
Benefits:

26 Days Holiday (increases with service)
Tusker Car Scheme
Performance-based Bonus Scheme
Annual Elysia company offsite
3 hours per week dedicated learning and development allowance.

Maths for AI Jobs: The Only Topics You Actually Need (& How to Learn Them)

If you are a software engineer, data scientist or analyst looking to move into AI or you are a UK undergraduate or postgraduate in computer science, maths, engineering or a related subject applying for AI roles, the maths can feel like the biggest barrier. Job descriptions say “strong maths” or “solid fundamentals” but rarely spell out what that means day to day. The good news is you do not need a full maths degree worth of theory to start applying. For most UK roles like Machine Learning Engineer, AI Engineer, Data Scientist, Applied Scientist, NLP Engineer or Computer Vision Engineer, the maths you actually use again & again is concentrated in a handful of topics: Linear algebra essentials Probability & statistics for uncertainty & evaluation Calculus essentials for gradients & backprop Optimisation basics for training & tuning A small amount of discrete maths for practical reasoning This guide turns vague requirements into a clear checklist, a 6-week learning plan & portfolio projects that prove you can translate maths into working code.

Neurodiversity in AI Careers: Turning Different Thinking into a Superpower

The AI industry moves quickly, breaks rules & rewards people who see the world differently. That makes it a natural home for many neurodivergent people – including those with ADHD, autism & dyslexia. If you’re neurodivergent & considering a career in artificial intelligence, you might have been told your brain is “too much”, “too scattered” or “too different” for a technical field. In reality, many of the strengths that come with ADHD, autism & dyslexia map beautifully onto AI work – from spotting patterns in data to creative problem-solving & deep focus. This guide is written for AI job seekers in the UK. We’ll explore: What neurodiversity means in an AI context How ADHD, autism & dyslexia strengths match specific AI roles Practical workplace adjustments you can ask for under UK law How to talk about your neurodivergence during applications & interviews By the end, you’ll have a clearer picture of where you might thrive in AI – & how to set yourself up for success.
