PI Consultant - Remote - £70K DOE

My client is looking to appoint a PI Consultant to wok on high end SCADA systems. The role is expected to be a technical authority/Subject Matter Expert in the application of AVEVA PI solutions and also their place in the wider context of the full AVEVA software portfolio. Excellent communications skills and the ability to interact with customers at all levels, ie technical/engineering up to C level is crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions to scope consultancy and project work for AVEVA PI products.
  • Propose robust solution architectures that align with customer needs.
  • Deliver consultancy and project work within specified time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Assist in responding to customer RFI/RFPs.
  • Lead and support the delivery of Proof of Value projects utilizing the full range of AVEVA PI software.
  • Conduct PI health checks and comprehensive obsolescence, security, upgrade, and governance audits.
  • Actively support customers with technical issues and identify opportunities for future growth.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with all stakeholders, both internal and external, including Project Manager, Technical Service Manager, Sales Account Manager, and colleagues involved in delivering consultancy and projects.
  • Interact with customers at both technical and commercial levels, from engineers to C-level executives.
  • Escalate any technical or commercial concerns to your line manager.
  • Provide high-level pre- and post-sales support to internal and external customers, ensuring an escalation path from the service desk team. Serve as a product consultant for specified products where you are a subject matter expert.
  • Understand the product's value proposition and communicate it to customers.
  • Recognize how the product fits into the overall solution (e.g., Customer First).
  • Stay informed about market trends, customer needs, and opportunities related to products/services, providing direct feedback to the product group and sales while contributing to supplier technical pain lists.
  • Remain updated on the development of new products and operating systems.

Note: In addition to these responsibilities, employees may be required to perform other reasonable duties as needed.

Skills, Qualifications, and Competence Level:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the AVEVA PI portfolio, from value proposition to delivery (including AVEVA CONNECT, Datahub, and OSI OCS).
  • Deep understanding of communication drivers and data interfaces (e.g., OPCUA, MQTT), including the ability to configure and troubleshoot from PLC to ERP systems.
  • Willingness to learn new software and hardware skills is essential.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively.
  • Alignment with company values.
  • Experience in developing and supporting high-end PI solutions.
  • Skills in data and information management.
  • Proficiency in Python scripting.
  • Familiarity with structured programming languages.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Server OS administration and networking.
  • Experience with configuring and working in virtualized environments.
  • Knowledge of APIs and PI System Access (PSA).

Desirable:

  • Exposure to Machine Learning/AI.
  • Experience or familiarity with high-end SCADA and MES solutions (preferably AVEVA, but also competitors like Siemens, Rockwell, etc.).
  • Ability to assist with SCADA consultancy and project delivery when resource constraints arise.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Reporting Services; experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of structured design and development methodologies, with the ability to interpret and convert design documents into functional technology blocks and test specifications.
  • Capability to engage in all aspects of the project lifecycle, from requirements gathering to project commissioning, with occasional travel expected across the UK and Ireland.
