Senior Reserving Actuary – Hybrid - London - Up to £130,000 per annum


My client is a leading Lloyd's Syndicate who are looking for an Actuarial Reserving Actuary to join their team. This role is based in London with some remote capabilities and is paying up to £130,000.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the reserving function, ensuring all processes operate efficiently and on time.
  • Perform reserving investigations on assigned products, ensuring accurate estimates are produced, methodologies are properly implemented, and internal and external review processes are facilitated.
  • Implement tests and validation processes to ensure the accuracy and adequacy of reserves.
  • Support effective governance processes for reserving, ensuring timely, efficient, and well-documented reporting of reserve reviews.
  • Communicate the results of reserve analyses to management.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Perform quarterly close process duties, collaborating with Finance and US-based Actuarial colleagues to ensure effective operation of key controls.
  • Contribute to the production of quarterly and annual Solvency II Technical Provisions.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Technical Provisions section of the Actuarial Function report.
  • Support the parameterisation of the Internal Capital Model by assisting with the modelling of reserve risk.
  • Liaise with auditors, external actuarial consultants, and peer-reviewers as needed, under management’s direction.


Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Solid experience in an Actuarial discipline (Reserving, Pricing, Capital Modelling, etc.), with a preference for a background in Reserving.
  • Proven ability to take on more senior-level roles in future career steps.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of collaborative work across insurance disciplines such as Underwriting, Executive Management, Claims, Finance, and Reinsurance.
  • Preference for experience in London Market, commercial, or reinsurance reserving; knowledge of Continental European markets is advantageous but not essential.
  • Deep understanding of industry reserving methodologies and issues.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements and experience in delivering on those requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, insightful information for management.
  • Good understanding of insurance and reinsurance products.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly with MS Office and reserving software (preferably ResQ). Experience with SQL, Visual Basic, data visualization tools, or statistical programming languages (e.g., R) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with predictive analytics and data science techniques is a plus.
