Job Details– Senior Pricing Analyst - Actuarial, Data Science and Engineering

Purpose

  • Develop insights to drive pricing initiatives and strategy for Hastings Directs products, delivering these on time and to specification
  • Co-ordinate delivery of price changes, monitor performance and track our market position
  • Create professional reports and presentations to achieve buy in from colleagues
  • Engage with business stakeholders regularly (including internal and external), taking them on our pricing journey


Key Accountabilities

Delivery

  • Ensure that work is completed in line with agreed timelines by the Pricing Manager, and to the professional standard expected by the business
  • Speak to the Pricing Manager and relevant business stakeholders to ensure project requirements are appropriately defined early in the process
  • Call out any expected problems or delays as soon as they are identified, managing the message appropriately with stakeholders
  • Use creative problem-solving skills to effectively solve or bypass any problems impeding progress on key deliverables


Improvement of Business Processes and Reports

  • Improvement of existing processes to enhance speed of delivery, quality of output and value delivered to the business
  • Develop programming skills (R, SQL, Python, etc.) to extract and transform raw data into useful business insight
  • Create and maintain regular reporting to be communicated to key stakeholders, ensuring the accuracy of what is shared


Stakeholder Relationships

  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders and relevant peers throughout Commercial and other directly relevant business areas, to understand their activities and priorities, and the implications for pricing
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to highlight benefits and limitations of pricing proposals
  • Actively participate in team, business and external meetings


Analysis

  • Collate, analyse and interpret a range of internal and external data sources to formulate insights and draw conclusions for pricing activity
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the business and wider insurance market to refine and support analytical conclusions
  • Identify novel solutions to business problems and creative ways of presenting results to influence stakeholders


Presentation

  • Build professionally formatted reports and presentations, identifying and sharing key highlights in a clear and understandable way
  • Use of story-telling skills to influence stakeholders, keeping them actively engaged and gaining support for initiatives
  • Present convincing and well-articulated arguments to peers and senior stakeholders confidently
  • Explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences in a clear and simplified manner


Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Drive, enthusiasm, creativity and problem solving skills
  • Ideally some knowledge of tools such as R, SQL, Python, Matlab, etc.
  • Ability to present analytical results in a non-technical way
  • Ability to work as part of a team in an environment that demands excellence, reliability, accuracy and working with competing deadlines
  • Strong numerical reasoning


Desirable

  • Good foundation of mathematical knowledge
  • Experience working with data and using statistical concepts
  • Able to present confidently to groups of people
  • Analytical background, proven track record deriving insight from large datasets
  • Experience of general insurance, financial services or other price-competitive businesses
