For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.

We’re excited to welcome a Senior Gameplay Animation Programmer to our team for an exciting new Sci-Fi project! This is a wonderful opportunity for you to showcase your talents at a company known for crafting thrilling shooter experiences.

In the role of Senior Gameplay Animation Programmer, you’ll act as the vital link connecting animators with AI developers, fostering a smooth collaboration between animation and AI frameworks. By collaborating with animators, the AI team, and our in-house technical specialists, you'll harness our proprietary engine, Asura, to implement character animations, aid in crafting engaging gameplay mechanics, and enhance the visual appeal of AI characters.

Your key emphasis will be on creating dynamic enemy/NPC movement, traversal, and melee combat systems.

This position is based at our riverside headquarters in Oxford, offering a creative and relaxed atmosphere where teamwork drives our success. We can provide a relocation package, including moving assistance, temporary accommodation, and full support to ensure a smooth transition to your new environment.

We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration and encourage working from our Oxford headquarters. However, we understand that flexibility matters, so we’re open to discussing hybrid options based on individual needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement animation programming for our proprietary engine.
  • Collaborate with content creators to develop tools and functionalities for animation systems.
  • Develop and conduct testing for code pertaining to content creation tools, while enhancing and maintaining features within our animation systems.
  • Effectively troubleshoot and resolve intricate bugs in both known and unfamiliar code frameworks within specified timeframes.
  • Proactively observe, identify, and rectify performance challenges utilizing IDE Performance Tools.
  • Create highly reliable and maintainable code, ensuring that bugs have minimal impact on user experience.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members while providing support to colleagues across various disciplines.
  • Engage with stakeholders to analyze and comprehend requirements, prioritize backlogs, and devise plans for future work.

Requirements

  • Proficient in C/C++ programming languages, possessing a strong understanding of object-oriented development.
  • Demonstrated professional experience contributing to published console or PC games, specifically in areas related to animation.
  • Professional experience with animation graphs (Unreal, Unity or proprietary etc.)
  • Strong enthusiasm for science fiction, shooter games, and/or cooperative gaming experiences.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence systems would be advantageous.
