About your team: 

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

We have an exciting new requirement for aSenior Ethics & Compliance Managerto join our Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Ethics & Compliance, and Secretariat Function (LRECS). LRECS focusses on providing a diverse and inclusive environment with a strong emphasis on wellbeing and delivering opportunities for growth and personal development.

The Group Ethics pillar is a small, innovative, dynamic, and highly visible team that is responsible for Our Code, Speak Up (whistleblowing system), Conflicts of Interest and Gifts and Hospitality, alongside other key projects in the Ethics and Compliance (E&C) space. We are seeking an experienced individual who can display specialist knowledge and proactiveness to maintain and develop all elements of our ethics programme. 

Location:We work flexibly in line with our Flexible First working arrangements believing that empowered colleagues are happier and more productive. The successful candidate will, however, need to be comfortable commuting to our Windsor office on a once-weekly basis.

Key Accountabilities:

Responsible for strategy and policies, procedures, systems and guidance documents relating to all pillars of the Ethics Programme (including design, implementation and continuous improvement), in particular Gifts & Hospitality, Conflicts of Interest, annual Code certifications, and Speak Up whistleblowing management. Provide guidance to senior management, staff, and employees on ethics and compliance. Lead the team who manage central registers and processes required within the Centrica Ethics & Compliance programme (including but not limited to: Speak Up, conflicts of interests register, gifts and hospitality register), driving innovation and updates as required. Build and maintain an integrated ethics communications and awareness plan, working with Internal Comms and internal stakeholders to agree Track and report current status of ethics & compliance education, policy acknowledgements, complaints, investigations, inquiries and other metrics as required. Provide support and assist with Ethics considerations towards the Responsible use of AI. Responsible for the co-ordination of the Modern Slavery Steering Committee and compiling/updating Centrica’s Modern Slavery statements. Responsible for the design, implementation, and coordination of global E&C training on all matters (including all E&C risks, all E&C foundational training – Code, conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality).

Who are we looking for?

Leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and manage a small team. Negotiating, influencing and communication skills to command professional respect at the highest levels. Developing close ‘trusted adviser’ relationships with key business leaders. Clear understanding and absolute adherence to ethical principles, company values, Business Principles and policies. Good oral and written communication skills with analytical skills and the ability to identify and explain compliance requirements and convey difficult messages to all stakeholders. Track record of collaborating with senior leaders to help facilitate their role in ensuring the effectiveness of the ethics and compliance program. Experience of managing ethics and compliance processes and controls (essential). Relevant or comparable professional experience, i.e., compliance and energy market experience, law firm or regulatory agency, relevant U.S. or UK compliance, regulatory, legal, risk, whistleblowing, auditing or internal controls work experience (essential). Experience of managing data and data analysis (desirable).
