Map of Ag is an exciting technology company focused on data science and insights in the agriculture sector. From offices in Penrith and York, we offer services to all levels of the agrifood supply chain, including suppliers, farms, agrifood processors, retailers and industry professionals.


Map of Ag are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Data Scientist, to join our data analytics team. The successful candidate will lead complex data initiatives and play a key role in shaping our analytical capabilities. You will lead project delivery, mentor other data scientists, and ensure that our data solutions are robust, scalable, and impactful.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the design and implementation of analytical models and processes across key projects.
  • Directing the technical aspects of projects they are involved in including the selection of tools, implementation methodology and processes to ensure successful delivery
  • Guiding other members of the analytics team to provide code reviews, direction, support and be their point of contact for technical questions



  • Efficient processing and mining of large datasets from various sources using intelligent criteria and mapping rules
  • Manipulating datasets and building/maintaining models to add value and generate key performance indicators
  • Work closely with Product and Client Services to align analytics outputs with business needs.
  • Ensure clear documentation and effective communication of findings and recommendations.


Skills & Experience


  • 4+ years' experience in a data science or applied analytics role, with clear progression in responsibilities.
  • Experience solving domain-specific problems, preferably in agriculture, or sustainability
  • Capable of working effectively within an agile team environment with evidence of excellent organizational, documentation and project management skills
  • Strong Python and MS Excel capabilities. Knowledge of JavaScript, R, SQL, VBA, git, machine-learning or optimisation algorithms preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to utilize statistical & data analysis methodologies to extract hidden insights from large complex datasets with excellent attention to detail. Mechanistic or empirical modelling experience is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills and able to liaise with a variety of colleagues and stakeholders, including account managers and IT developers
  • STEM degree or equivalent professional experience required
