Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Senior Data Scientists enable the design, development, integration, and testing of complex, high-quality data science solutions to meet user needs, continually improving through best practice patterns, methods, and tools. Responsibilities include:

  1. Building effective relationships with client counterparts and third-party organizations.
  2. Owning end-to-end implementation and design of data science models, seeking guidance from senior colleagues as needed.
  3. Structuring and providing technical assurance for less experienced practitioners to maximize quality and velocity, while managing technical risks.
  4. Collaborating with multidisciplinary practitioners to ensure solutions meet user and business needs.
  5. Delivering high-quality data science services across all stages of projects, aligned with best practices.
  6. Working with Delivery Managers to estimate research and development activities and plan technical work.
  7. Identifying and mitigating technical risks, issues, and dependencies.
  8. Maintaining up-to-date practitioner skills through training and certifications.
  9. Participating actively in the Data Science discipline, identifying growth areas, and coaching less experienced team members.

Requirements

  • Experience in Agile environments, delivering software in controlled increments (e.g., Scrum).
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
  • Hands-on experience designing solutions handling sensitive data.
  • Strong programming skills in languages like Python or R, with best practices.
  • Knowledge of data governance and data protection best practices.
  • Experience planning technical activities and structuring team work.
  • Ability to provide robust development estimates.
  • Experience guiding junior colleagues and peers.
  • Understanding of operationalising and deploying Data Science solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in professional services or consultancy environments.
  • Experience with natural language processing and generative AI applications.
  • Keeping up with AI research through conferences and literature.
  • Ability to work across multiple teams and projects.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Master’s or PhD in a STEM field.
