Salary: The starting salary is £60,893, which includes allowances totaling £2,928.


The salary is broken down as £57,965 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £63,230; plus a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.


Location / Hybrid Working

The primary Met Location for this role is either Lambeth, Sidcup or Hendon. Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected. Blended working with an expectation of 3 days minimum in the office per week. We actively support hybrid working solutions.


Security Clearance

Due to the secure nature of our work, successful candidates must pass all vetting and security requirements to SC level, before they can be appointed.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to lead the design and delivery of impactful data science solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll work closely with stakeholders, shape projects, mentor others and drive innovation using modern tools and techniques. You will also play a key role in promoting ethical AI practices and scaling products across the organisation.


Responsibilities

You will lead end-to-end data science projects, from scoping through to deployment, working directly with senior stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into actionable technical solutions. In this role you will mentor junior team members, provide expert guidance and foster a collaborative team environment. You will help shape the roadmap for our data science products, build relationships across internal and external partners and represent the team at events and conferences. You will also support the transition of products into scalable, cloud-based environments and ensure the data used is high-quality, fit for purpose, and aligned to project goals.

Essential skills

  • Strong analytical skills and experience delivering real-world data science solutions
  • Practical knowledge of techniques such as NLP, regression, or network analysis at scale
  • Proficient in Python and SQL
  • Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of data ethics, privacy and governance
  • STEM degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in policing, justice or public sector technology
  • Experience with Agile ways of working
  • Familiarity with Azure Databricks or similar cloud platforms
  • Understanding of front-end frameworks for data product delivery
  • Background in intelligence, policing, or public sector operations
  • Confident presenter in both internal and external settings
