Senior Research Scientist – Data Science & Machine Learning

Chelmsford (Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week)

£60,000 – £75,000 + 10% Bonus

Security Clearance: Must be eligible for UK SC Clearance


A globally respected research and technology organisation is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join its advanced data and decision science capability. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI, machine learning, and statistical signal processing—delivering real impact across domains including national defence, space, and critical infrastructure.


What you'll be doing:


• Leading AI/ML research projects from concept to prototype

• Developing algorithms for sequential data and decision support

• Collaborating across teams with specialisms in radar, sonar, NLP, CV, autonomy, LLMs, and more

• Mentoring junior staff and publishing/patenting innovative research

• Working directly with customers across defence, space, and security sectors


What we’re looking for:


• PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline

• Deep knowledge of machine learning and statistical signal processing

• Strong Python skills and familiarity with frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn

• Experience working with time-series, sensor, or RF data

• Track record of delivering innovative solutions in complex technical domains


Please note: Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible for UK Security Clearance, which typically requires at least 5 years of continuous UK residency.


Package:


• £60,000 - £75,000 base

• 10% bonus

• Pension

• Medical cover
