At L3Harris Flight Data Services, we provide an outsourced Flight Data Monitoring service to aircraft operators worldwide. It is important to deliver insights to customers in a presentable and timely manner, enabling them to take action to reduce costs and improve safety to save lives.

L3Harris Flight Data Services has the largest flight data monitoring platform in the world; the Software Engineering Team supports & develops capabilities and ad-hoc analysis for this platform. We work with customers to improve their safety operations with insights and analysis capability.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will produce architecting/engineering data led solutions to complex extraction and transformation requirements analytical reports and answer customer requests, working alongside experienced flight data specialists. You will experiment and lead data cloud migration project to support new generation of analytical services, help create machine learning models to find hidden patterns in our data and present results of analyses and models in a customer friendly manner. Our data are time series sensor data and high level event summaries. We also expect you to curate and maintain dashboards with valuable insights using data stored in data warehouse. You will also mentor team members as well as lead technical data science projects. You will have a range of knowledge and skills and is expected to keep up to date with the latest trends and technologies.

As a member of the R&D data science team, you will (with support and guidance):

Build data systems, build and maintain data pipelines Create solutions to enable customer use third-party BI tools Design DB architectures, research and advice on how effectively combine high level statistics with the detailed time-series data Handle complex time series flight data, data cleaning, feature extraction ELT process, making sure that data is extracted and presented in the most effective way Help produce analytical reports and answer customer requests, working alongside experienced flight data specialists Liaise with customers for ad-hoc data analysis Present the results of the analyses and models in a customer friendly manner Produce dashboards and insights using the data warehouse Research and lead programs of technical machine learning (ML) focused work Develop and maintain ML models

Knowledge, skills and qualifications:

Hands-on experience with SQL and database design Good understanding of statistics, and ability to pick correct methods to produce valuable insights Expert knowledge of database architectures and modern BI tooling Good knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS preferred) Working knowledge of ML models and their applications Expertise in data analysis and data quality Expertise with Python and their plotting libraries The ability to clean/transform database content and to analyse and interpret data Ability to plan work and meet deadlines. Clarity of communication and problem-solving skills.
