What you will be doing:
The Senior Cloud Operations Engineer will be responsible for the strategic oversight, upkeep, and advanced maintenance of Nuix product environments, including AWS cloud, networks, cloud platforms, backup solutions, and monitoring and alerting systems. This role requires a deep understanding of cloud architecture and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. The Senior Cloud Operations Engineer will lead complex projects, serve as a top-tier escalation point for cloud and infrastructure-related issues, incidents, and requests, and mentor junior team members.
Location:
This position will be based in our London office. The candidate is required to attend the office a minimum of 2-3 days per week but may voluntarily elect to work either remotely or from the London office for the remaining days of the week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the upkeep and maintenance of Nuix product environments, ensuring optimal performance of AWS cloud infrastructure, networks, cloud platforms, backup solutions, and monitoring systems.
- Oversee and deliver on complex, high-impact projects, providing strategic guidance and ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Act as a senior escalation point for all cloud and infrastructure-related issues, incidents, and requests, providing expert-level troubleshooting and resolution.
- Collaborate with senior decision-makers and stakeholders to define systems requirements, technology goals, and to address critical business systems issues.
- Design and enforce high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and backup strategies, ensuring robust change control workflows are in place.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance documentation related to system configuration, processes, and service records.
- Identify and proactively address operational weaknesses, leading initiatives to enhance system reliability and performance.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting and resolution of complex infrastructure and application problems.
- Perform high-level maintenance and capacity planning, including server patching, firmware upgrades, configuration changes, DR tests, and backups validations.
- Maintain and expand professional expertise through continuous technical training and industry certifications.
- Provide technical leadership in a global, 24/7/365 multi-tiered production environment, including participation in a rotating weekend roster (1/5 weeks).
- Define, enforce, and continuously improve monitoring, backups, and DR strategies for a well-architected cloud environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the stability of SaaS production environments and provide expert technical responses to customer queries, incidents, and requests.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Technical Operations (TechOps), Cloud Engineering, or a similar role.
- Strong leadership skills with a zero-trust mindset and a security-by-design approach to technology.
- Exceptional relationship management, communication, and negotiation skills with all stakeholders, including senior management.
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure and application problems at an enterprise level.
- Extensive experience securing and monitoring environments, including expertise in compliance, best practices, WAF firewalls, observability, and monitoring tools.
- Proven track record of leading successful infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
- Advanced knowledge of containerized and virtualized environments such as Kubernetes, Docker, or similar container technologies.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS products including EC2, S3, Route 53, Lambda, and RDS.
- Proficiency in code management and CI/CD tools such as Helm, GitHub/GitLab, software repositories, Atlassian tools, Ansible, and Jenkins.
- Advanced experience in managing and administering Linux-based systems, Windows Servers, MS SQL, and global Active Directory.
- Strong scripting skills in languages such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, CloudFormation, and Terraform.
- Ability to work flexible hours and outside of regular business hours when required.
- Familiarity with technology audits and compliance projects.
- Must be able to undergo police criminal record checks and obtain a sponsored government baseline clearance.

- Good understanding of DevOps process
- Understanding of cyber security practices and products.
