Senior Control Systems Engineer

You will be part of the team developing our software platform to reduce the time and cost of propulsion system development. The software platform will enable testing and assessment of electric machines, decarbonised thermal propulsion systems and transmission systems at a reduced cost. You will be working with automotive, aerospace, marine, heavy-duty, two-wheeler, rail and off-road vehicle applications.


In the long run, you will travel globally and help set-up systems for auto-manufacturers and lead teams in this area.

We are looking for people who excel at solving complex problems, maintain a high sense of urgency in their work, and contribute as a team player to build new capabilities and innovate in our testing approach.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Driving and leading software/control systems algorithm development and architecture
  • Conduct R&D of control system algorithms including hardware in the loop testing alongside PhD researchers
  • Technical analysis of control strategy performance
  • Publishing high quality journal papers and attending conferences
  • Reporting of technical status
  • Develop modular, reusable test and automation software in Python and similar languages for control design verification
  • Define and implement project plans, manage milestones and hold reviews to assure reliable test systems are delivered to production
  • Report to the founders


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, math, or science discipline
  • 2+ years of software programming experience using Python, C++, or other object-oriented language (school and individual projects is acceptable)


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 to 5 years work experience with programming and developing custom control systems
  • Knowledge of dynamometer control systems, motor control systems or engine control systems
  • Experience with advanced control strategies or machine learning approaches (e.g., fuzzy logic, adaptive systems, recursive neural networks, convolutional neural networks)
  • Analytical approach to developing control algorithms
  • Extensive knowledge with a range of digital and analog interfaces including GPIB, USB, VISA, TCP/IP, VLAN, CAN bus, SPI, I2C, Modbus, analog-to-digital conversion
  • Experience in developing custom coded control systems (Python or C++ preferable)
  • Experience in developing control systems with NILabView or similar frameworks
  • Ability to work independently and under tight time constraints
  • Strong communicator with the ability to present findings in a proficient manner and brainstorm on future steps for development
  • Knowledge of Cloud processes such as CI/CD, pipelines, SaaS based models with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud platforms
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience with combustion prime movers
  • Experience developing application, test, or automation software in an interdisciplinary environment

  • Willing to work extended as needed
