The American Express Global Privacy Oversight are trusted advisors on the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles. We work to raise privacy awareness, drive compliance with both internal privacy policies and regulatory expectations across the organization and establish privacy as a strategic differentiator for the American Express brand. As a second line of defense function, Global Privacy oversee, provide expertise in, and challenge the identification, management, and mitigation of privacy risks across the company in line with the privacy framework and the company's vision to provide the world's best customer experience every day.

This position is based in the United Kingdon (UK) and reports to the Sr. Manager of U.S. Consumer Privacy.

This position is part of the U.S. Consumer Privacy team within the Global Privacy Oversight organization in American Express' second line of defense risk oversight function. The successful candidate will be a privacy subject matter expert or will have a background working in risk and control practices (e.g., compliance) and will be comfortable interacting with multiple stakeholders across a highly matrixed organisation to achieve organisational goals.

The Analyst will help initiate and drive efforts to provide best-in-class privacy and data protection focused support to AXP businesses, with a focus on Global Dining, including privacy risk management across digital dining platforms that powers restaurant reservation booking, table management capabilities, and contactless payments.

The Analyst will translate legal, policy, and technology requirements and business objectives into processes, capabilities, and controls to position privacy as a competitive advantage that drives business growth and customer loyalty. A successful candidate will be a key customer and business advocate. The Analyst will work closely with the partners to assess privacy risks, communicate requirements, and recommend controls into products and services available to our customers. Candidates must have strong communication skills, with an ability to influence others and promote privacy throughout the businesses the Analyst supports.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Provide Privacy Risk Oversight/Credible Challenge/Consultation to Amex Businesses (e.g., US Consumer, which includes Global Dining) (US focused and Global remit); Ensuring adequate controls/mitigating privacy risks for existing and emerging risks such as Artificial Intelligence and Digital Marketing.
  • Provide privacy subject matter expertise and identify privacy obligations with an internal and external perspective.
  • Identify, develop, and manage privacy-related documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the ongoing development of American Express' global privacy program.
  • Ensure adherence to the enterprise privacy risk appetite, and Amex Data Protection and Privacy Principles globally through effective privacy oversight and second line of defense challenge, while driving compliance with regulatory and legal requirements and company policies.
  • Foster a culture of privacy at American Express by advocating for privacy-by-design, integration of the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles, accountability, and sharing of best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in privacy, compliance and/or risk management and oversight, including risk assessment and determining adequacy of operational risk controls.
  • Understanding of privacy legal and regulatory requirements focused on the United States, EU, UK, and Canada (e.g., knowledge of GLBA, CCPA, GDPR, PIPEDA, etc. ) and appreciation of global Privacy related laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Highly organized with strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with good attention to details to identify privacy risks and trends.
  • Strong team player, self-motivated, with ability to work independently, multitask efficiently, and manage competing priorities under demanding deadlines.
  • Outstanding relationship building skills to partner effectively across diverse, cross-functional teams in complex and rapidly changing environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, OneDrive).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and/or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification.
  • Prior work in privacy compliance, audit, and/or risk management experience in financial services, digital, or technology company.
  • Knowledge of digital payment technologies and digital marketing (e.g., contactless payments, online advertising, tracking technologies, social media, mobile apps, etc. with a focus on privacy risk and data flow).
