Research Engineering Manager


Location - London / Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)


What are we looking for:


MicroTECH Global is seeking a unique individual for a distinctive technology role.


Are you a Research Engineering Manager passionate about technology and leading cutting-edge research that shapes the future of tech?


We are looking for a driven and experienced Technical Manager to lead our client's research group, guiding projects in video and point cloud compression, AI/ML applications, and algorithm optimization for performance and visual quality.


About the company:


MicroTECH Global collaborates with a company at the forefront of parallel data compression, AI, data compression, and XR. They have developed award-winning software transforming industries like TV, live events, entertainment, social networks, media, aerospace, automotive, and gaming.


They maintain an agile and flexible innovation cycle, with rapid testing and implementation facilitated by in-house testing facilities.


Responsibilities:



  • Manage daily activities of the Research Group, ensuring project delivery, team performance, and talent recruitment.
  • Mentor and develop engineers through regular feedback, objective setting, and support.
  • Lead algorithm and software design for data compression systems, guiding team development of solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including reports, white papers, and IP.
  • Enhance research processes and tools for efficiency and quality.


Background and Experience:



  • Passion for research and advancing in a dynamic environment.
  • Pragmatism with hypothesis-driven innovation and rapid MVP delivery.
  • Experience in data compression, AI/ML, and C++ development.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Adaptability in an innovative, cross-functional environment.
  • Deep understanding of data compression, quality metrics, and color spaces.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle and collaboration across teams.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++, experience with parallel processing.
  • Understanding of standardization processes and organizations.


Beneficial to have:



  • Knowledge of Visual Quality assessment techniques.
  • Experience with TensorFlow, media indexing, and multimodal AI.
  • IP development experience.
  • Research presentation experience at conferences and forums.
  • Contribution to SDOs.
  • Experience with Agile, JIRA, GIT.
