Octopus buys power directly from wind, solar and hydro sites all over the UK (and soon all over the world). Octopus has almost 1000 contracts in place with renewable generators from commercial scale solar rooftops through to offshore wind farms representing in excess of of installed capacity. The power generated by these sites allows us to supply our customers with green electricity from contracted renewable generation where possible.We’re looking for the next lead for our PPA business to continue to grow the number of contracts we sign with renewable generators and expand the portfolio even further. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the PPA business from sales and origination through to operations management. This will all be done with a view to paying a fair price to renewable generators, and delivering green electricity to Octopus customers at the lowest possible cost.The ideal candidate will be passionate about the transition to renewable energy, adept at managing multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment and comfortable with all the moving parts and complexity that come with the energy industry.This role sits within the Octopus Energy Markets Team. However, this is not a typical energy markets team. Instead of working in large, siloed teams, our trading, risk, forecasting and data science functions work closely together. We use technology to maintain a lean operation as the company grows. We focus on the big problems and give people the autonomy and resources to find innovative solutions.

What you'll do...

Deliver sustainable growth across the PPA portfolio Originate and negotiate new platform deals across our broker, direct and partnership sales channels Develop and structure new products for our renewable generation clients; in particular work with our renewable energy infrastructure investments business, Octopus Energy Generation (OEGen) and Octopus Energy for Business (OEB), to capitalise on synergies between our generation and demand businesses Oversee PPA portfolio gross margins, managing the pricing and risk of the book Oversee platform and process upgrades to ensure the scalability of the portfolio and smooth operational delivery of contracts Manage a small, dynamic team Work cross functionally across teams at Octopus including Strategy, Finance, Generation and Business Communicate deal flow, PPA performance, risks and issues succinctly with senior leaders across the business Manage key business relationships including with our market access provider Drive best practice across Octopus businesses in other countries by sharing experience.

What you'll need...

Passion for renewables and the energy transition Detailed understanding of energy markets and how it works from the perspective of renewable generators Excellent communication skills to relay complicated concepts in a way that everyone can understand Excellent commercial awareness and financial literacy to identify and understand the problems that need solving Knowledge of data design, data modelling, data management and data visualisation Ideally experience with Python and SQL.
