A rare opportunity has arisen for you to apply for the Sister / Charge Nurse (AFC band 6) post on Chesterman 1 within the Cardiology department of the South Yorkshire Regional Services.

The post holder will provide leadership, management and leading and co-ordinating the nursing team and taking continuing responsibility and accountability for the management and organisation of the nursing team.

Chesterman 1 is a busy Cardiology ward which provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and treatment services for the management of all aspects and presentations of coronary heart disease. The team works with specialised services within cardiology to provide holistic integrated treatments serving both local and regional districts including Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Bassetlaw.

This is an important role in which the successful candidate will provide support to the Senior Sister and the rest of the team.

The applicant must be flexible, approachable, hardworking and able to use their own initiative and work under pressure. They must also possess excellent organisational and communication ability and demonstrate the capacity to develop leadership skills.

Applicants will have extensive experience in Cardiology and must have completed the Cardiology competency package, or equivalent.

Maintenance of close working relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team is imperative in providing an effective and high quality patient service.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that the highest possible patient focused quality care is delivered within Chesterman 1 and that it meets the expectations of individual patients and reflects the Directorate business objectives.

Plan the development of the team and lead the operational management of staff within a defined team, including appraisals, rotas, recruitment and selection, and the supervision of students.

Support the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse in ensuring the highest standard and quality of nursing care is delivered.

Support the Matron, Deputy Nurse Director and Nurse Director in providing a quality service to all its users and deliver the broad objectives of the clinical teams.

The post holder’s duties would reflect both clinical and managerial commitments.

Be a role model for all and contribute effectively to inter-professional team working.

We are therefore looking for a clinical expert who is committed and dedicated and has the ability to provide patients with high quality, compassionate care.

 The successful candidate should –

Have the relevant clinical skills to care for Cardiology patients
Have significant post registration experience at AFC Band 5 or above in a relevant speciality
Be able to work under pressure

RGN Level one NMC registered To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 Continuous professional development
