At Quantinuum we have formed a new team to implement our AI strategy. This team now consists of a group of 14 employees. We are now talent pooling for future positions in this team. Please register your interest and will will get back to you when new roles open in this team! Please note replies may not be immediate as all the current position have been filled!

Designing, building, programming, and using a quantum computer poses numerous challenges. Modern AI methods show promise in tackling them, and such a project requires quantum computing scientists to identify use cases and design experiments.

As a Machine learning scientist in the AI for Quantum team, you will design ML experiments, in collaboration with ML engineers and quantum computing scientists, leading the development of tools and frameworks applying AI techniques to quantum computing to solve hard problems in the quantum computing stack. Specifically, the successful applicant will have access to Quantinuum’s highest quality quantum computers. Example applications can include circuit optimisation, designing quantum algorithms and error mitigation or correction strategies, and in general setups in which AI models work in synergy with quantum computers to solve problems inaccessible to either technology independently.

As a Machine learning Engineer in the AI for Quantum team, you will use state-of-the-art methods, in collaboration with quantum computing scientists, to solve hard problems arising in the full quantum computing stack, such as circuit compilation, searching for error-correcting codes, even identifying quantum advantage by providing the quantum computer as a backend to a tool-using AI system.

Responsibilities:

  • Scientist
  • Research novel use cases of machine learning and AI for quantum program synthesis.
  • Discover high impact problems which Quantinuum can uniquely solve.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering team, product management, and other architects.
  • Attend and speak at relevant scientific, technical and industry conferences where necessary.
  • Engineer
  • Develop software infrastructure to facilitate the application of ML methods to solve problems in the quantum computing stack.
  • Write code to enable the running and recording of large-scale experiments in improving the quantum computing stack, using existing ML libraries when appropriate.
  • Run experiments in improving the quantum computing stack.

Key Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D in Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or related engineering field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in applied AI for scientific problems.
  • Previous quantum computing experience.
  • Familiarity with literature regarding quantum advantage.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with quantum computing concepts, or a related field such as quantum many-body physics.
  • Experience in large-scale machine learning (large language models, reinforcement learning)
  • Experience leveraging high-performance computing (e.g. distributed multi-node, multi-GPU platforms).
What is in it for you?
Working alongside a highly talented team, with leading names in the quantum computing industry. We offer a highly competitive package, equity, 28 days of paid holiday (in addition to public holidays), a workplace pension, a positive approach to flexible working and enhanced parental and adoption benefits.

10 AI Recruitment Agencies in the UK You Should Know (2025 Job‑Seeker Guide)

Generative‑AI hype has translated into real hiring: Lightcast recorded +57 % year‑on‑year growth in UK adverts mentioning “machine learning”, “LLM” or “gen‑AI” during Q1 2025. Yet supply still lags. Roughly 18,000 core AI professionals work in the UK, but monthly live vacancies hover around 1,400–1,600. That mismatch makes specialist recruiters invaluable—opening stealth vacancies, advising on salary bands and fast‑tracking interview loops. But many tech agencies sprinkle “AI” on their website without an active desk. To save you time, we vetted 50 + consultancies and kept only those with: A registered UK head office (verified via Companies House). A named AI/Machine‑Learning or Data practice.
