This forward-looking company are applying data science to deliver positive results for people with a view to the low carbon future. With an abundance of data collected, and technology in place, they are seeking a lead engineer with the analytical capabilities of a data scientist and the technical grounding of a data engineer.

Initially you will take the lead on delivering answers to vital data-driven questions posed by stakeholders, using your own capability along with mastering and refining their data platform. As time progresses, you will take responsibility for hiring and career development for a team you will lead. Autonomy and responsibility will be key as you drive the technical development of their services.


You will have:

Data science experience, including use of Python, databases, data cleaning, statistical methods and potentially machine learning techniques, along with the likes of PowerBI, Tableau and data visualisation tools in general.


Experience creating and managing data pipelines, working with and developing data warehouses, data lakes, and ideally lakehouse medallion architectures e.g. Microsoft Fabric.
Significant data engineering / software engineering expertise, applying SOLID and DRY principles, ideally in Python, with demonstrable past success. Familiarity with source control (Git), CI/CD and ideally Docker, GitHub.
Project management skills and stakeholder collaboration, along with the inclination and capability towards team leadership, setting objectives and key results.

A strong bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant subject is expected. Other useful awareness and interests include site reliability, data governance, quality and security, incident response, regulated industries, client liaison and support, networking at events. Personal interests in environmental, social and low carbon issues are a plus.


Fully remote work is available within the UK, as is the option to work two days a week from offices near Nottingham. Flexible, reduced or compressed hours may be considered where business needs are met. UK residence, and full existing and long term UK work permission without sponsorship are prerequisites. Remuneration includes salary plus a competitive package.
