The Head of Industrial Supply Chains will be the market facing lead of all the supply chain activities focused on leading the development / growing the commercial market in supply chain for Digital Catapult and delivering on the overall mission with a specific focus on defence, energy and transport.    

In this role you will develop the overall supply chain go to market strategy for Digital Catapult and the key focus for business growth. You’ll lead an operational delivery team to successfully deliver the Digital Catapult supply chain mission, developing new digital supply chain solutions and products. This will include monitoring and evaluation of the impact of these solutions and defining the opportunities for further Collaborative R&D funding in supply chains related to the target commercial sectors and in line with our technology roadmap. 

This is a hybrid role and can be based out of either our London, Belfast, Bristol or Gateshead offices. You will be required to work in the office at least 2 days per week.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties) 

  • Deliver the overall commercial growth targets for supply chains, £2m per year by 2027/28.  
  • Lead the development of the industrial supply chains strategy with a priority on defence.  Developing the business model for the long-term growth of the supply chains in Digital Catapult.    
  • Ability to develop commercial value propositions in relation to the programme’s product development and validation with industrial partners in the digital supply chain.  
  • Keep up to date with developments in the sector, represent the projects and steering groups and be the Catapult’s ambassador in digital supply chains.  
  • Contribute to developing new and maintaining existing industry and tech partnerships in digital supply chains.  
  • Developing the strategy for international coordination and liaison around digital supply chains.  
  • Provide supply chain with domain expertise and lead where needed our digital supply chain projects and programmes. 

Requirements

  • Proven experience in business development in the supply chain domain, including lead generation through to contract closure. Able to demonstrate digital supply chain know-how and understanding of the technology / business landscape, ecosystem, value chain and future trends. 
  • Deep understanding and experience of operational and organisational structures and business models within manufacturing supply chains including strategy & planning, sales & procurement, fulfilment & logistics.   
  • A broad understanding of the digital technology landscape in digital supply chains including challenges and opportunities and Digital Catapult’s current position within that environment. Understanding and experience of using digital technologies and data to transform business practices within the sector and increase insight. 
  • Previous experience working within the supply chain domain sector, either directly for an DNO/TNO or as a consultant is essential, experience within the defence sector is desirable. Well-connected and networked in the UK with relevant players on both the industry and technology side, especially in defence. 
  • Good grasp of the financial case for investments in digital technology and data, and what future business models for manufacturing supply chains might look like.  
  • Appreciation of current and future trends in digital supply chains including future networks technologies, connected devices, distributed systems and data sharing, information governance legislation, innovation with personal / closed proprietary data, data analytics and artificial intelligence, information security, cloud delivery and ‘as a service’ models.  
  • Proven analytical and organisational skills with the capacity to develop longer-term strategies and to set up and manage large interventions taking complete ownership and accountability for delivery.  
  • Strong leadership capabilities. Highly collaborative with excellent communication / interpersonal, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
