Summary

We're seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Geographic Information & Remote Sensing to lead our Geographic Information (GI) and Remote Sensing (RS) team on an 18-month fixed term contract. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the strategy and professional development of our GI and RS services across the organisation, ensuring they align with our overall strategic goals. You’ll oversee innovation, data management, and professional growth, making sure our capabilities deliver for our ambitious organisational goals. 

Salary range: £54,639 - £58,149 based on skills and experience.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview. 

Travel will be required in this role to interact with our community of regionally based GIS consultants and data officers as well as property and regional clients.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you’ll will lead a high-performing team responsible for the development, data management, and consultancy functions within GI & RS. You’ll will craft and execute a comprehensive strategy that describes the vision for GI/ RS at National Trust including integration with wider organisational services and function. You’ll be responsible Key responsibilities include: for ensuring GIS & RS is enabling the GIS to deliver organisational strategy goals and leading change where required. You’ll be a leader and a coach, mentoring your team to support orginisational needs and leading the professional development of the GI & RS team, ensuring they adhere to industry standards. 

You’ll oversee spacial data management to ensure it meets the organisation's needs, while also driving research and innovation in geospatial data by collaborating with internal teams and external partners. You’ll also focus on building and maintaining strong relationships across various units and departments.

 The ideal candidate will have: 

A strong theoretical background in Geographic Information and Remote Sensing through a relevant degree or significant experience.  Proven ability to develop and deliver GI & RS strategies that align with broader organisational objectives.  Exceptional leadership skills, including experience managing and motivating high-performance teams.  A track record of leading change within large organisations and building strong stakeholder relationships.  Creativity and the ability to turn ambiguity into actionable plans.  Excellent communication and project management skills.
