The Trade Distribution Specialist support Vertex commercial, clinical, development and research export and import activities by ensuring the uninterrupted, compliant, and efficient movement of product across Vertexs global drug supply chain, clinical and research networks.

This is a remote role based in UK.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support all aspects of Vertexs export and import trade operations within scope of role, including:
  • Finished goods (commercial drug) import shipments to 3PL Distribution Centres and exports to customers in coordination with Vertex ISC Logistics team
  • Research, development, analytical samples, equipment, and other non-commercial import and export shipments to Vertexs sites in coordination with Lab Services (shipping) function and others
  • Together with GTC Sr Managers, act as an operational trade contact with Vertex trade managed service provider, customs broker, freight forwarders and carriers and other logistics providers in managing these shipments
  • As a member of the global trade compliance team, together with Vertexs logistics function and managed service provider:
  • Enter and update transactions and master data in Vertex systems.
  • Prepare and/or finalise shipping documents for Vertex-owned goods being exported and imported.
  • Conduct ongoing internal trade compliance monthly post-entry audits and support with the implementation of any corrective actions, as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with managed service provider and customs brokers.
  • Monitor customs broker compliance.
  • Collaborate with Tax Department on customs-related reporting.
  • Support efforts to minimize expenses, reduce delays, risks and secure the various supply chain Vertex is involved in
  • Handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of export/import requirements and operations including HTS, ECCN, PGA, COO, requirements.
  • Familiarity with requirements export and import requirements for markets within scope of role
  • Knowledge of standard export import processes.
  • Familiarity in working alongside customs brokers, managed service providers and logistics providers with proven results.
  • Strong digital analytical skills using software such as Excel, SharePoint, Alteryx, and other report writing and analytical tools; and well as enterprise software systems like Oracle.

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS required. Licensed Customs Broker or equivalent certification or equivalent experience
  • Some years experience with customs import data and post-clearance audits.
