Global Data Platform Design Lead


Our Client is seeking a Global Data Platform Desing Lead to join their team as they embark on an ambitious data strategy programme of work to uplift the data capabilities so they can respond simply and quickly to the needs of their customers.


The programme aims to improve how and when their people use data, so it informs and shapes their thinking and enables meaningful conversation and decisions, effecting cultural change that enables them to be both "data-fit" and "data-driven".


This new role is focused on designing, enhancing and maintaining the data platforms, data pipelines and the tooling capabilities surrounding them in a most efficient way, focussing on automation possibilities via DevOps/DataOps, CI/CD and democratise these capabilities within all the clients business units.


This successful candidate will be accountable for defining the standards for design, development and maintenance of the global data platform, data pipelines and leading the implementation of this capability, technology and tooling globally.



KEY RESPONSIBLITIES


  • The Data Platform Design Lead will operate at a global level working for the Global Head of Data Platforms & Engineer and will:


  • Play a critical role in refining and executing the Data Strategy.
  • Create the global data platform strategy and roadmap that is modern, adopts industry standards across the spectrum of platform engineering, data engineering (pipeline development) and data operations.
  • Designing and implementing a global approach to data platform standards with a view of business units being able to adopt them easily.
  • Lead the global implementation of the enterprise data platform vision including the definition and application of appropriate policies, and standards across all business units.
  • Accountable for selecting and implementing data platform technologies, working with cross-functional teams to integrate data platform technologies within the organisations operations.
  • Enable business units to become more autonomous with their platform and tooling needs allowing the organisation to achieve its data democratisation objective.
  • Accountable for managing data integrations including developing data integration strategies.
  • Accountable for liaising with Legal, Data Protection, Cyber Security teams to develop effective data controls in support of transformation.
  • Train and mentor junior members of the team so that they can confidently support team activities.
  • Cascade and educate business unit colleagues in the value of modern solutions and how these capabilities/initiatives can benefit them and the organisation as a group.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES


  • Accountable for all aspects of the organisation Data Platform Design including the design of automation, high availability, business continuity and service management.
  • Accountable for enhancing data lake and data warehouse architecture with a strong emphasis on data security, quality and automation.
  • Accountable for designing and implementing automated testing frameworks for data pipelines to identify and address issues proactively.
  • Defining and implementing data platform design to enable a consistent approach across the Group.
  • Implementing principles, policies, standards, and guidelines for good data culture.
  • Ensuring data platform roles and responsibilities at strategic & operational levels are clearly defined.
  • Providing technical support in the use of data platform tooling to relevant parties.
  • Fostering the creation of a data-driven culture across the organisation.
  • Providing data advisory support to key stakeholders.
  • Acting as the subject matter expert within the organisation and liaise with stakeholders to ensure data goals and objectives are met.
  • Teaches and advocates the use of business intelligence across levels of the organisation.
  • Develops and gives presentations on the power and value of data.
  • Presenting strategies and plans to Executives across the Organisation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to create presentations for Executive members, global leaders and deliver them clearly.
  • Influence and educate stakeholders, capturing business needs; understand and define their needs.
  • Coach and develop employees to make use of data and information and the path to becoming a data-driven organisation.


CURRENT ENVIRONMENT AND FUTURE POTENTIAL

Worked within an advisory/consultancy environment.

Defined data strategies and sought approval thereof.

Developed and implemented data platform, data architecture solutions and approaches for global organisations.

Significant experience of implementing cloud data platforms, specifically using modern data stack, across sectors.

Demonstrates ambition to grow alongside the organisation as they progress the clients transformation journey.
