Location: Llandudno Junction, North Wales (combination of office and home working)


Contract Type: Permanent


Rockwash Geodata is a geological services company based in North Wales, and part of the Judges Scientific Group, operating under the parent company Geotek Ltd. Rockwash is engaged in globally diverse projects with geological applications across a range of subsurface industries, and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Geological Data Scientist to join our team.


Profile


  • A postgraduate degree in geoscience and/or data science is required
  • Intermediate proficiency in scientific programming (e.g. Python, R), with demonstrable experience in data science and machine learning techniques
  • Ability to design analytical workflows and critically assess outputs
  • Industry experience in geoscience is preferred
  • Experience with geoscientific analytical or imaging techniques (e.g. XRF, visible/hyperspectral imaging) is advantageous
  • Experience of working in a geological laboratory setting is also beneficial
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as collaborate effectively as part of a team
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available for this position


Responsibilities


  • Take a leading role in developing and implementing new analytical workflows at Rockwash Geodata in Llandudno Junction, working closely with R&D teams at our parent company, Geotek, based in Daventry, Northamptonshire
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team of geoscientists and data scientists to apply and further develop data analysis and machine learning techniques
  • Integrate analytical outputs with other data sources and effectively communicate findings internally and externally, including contributing to and independently producing reports, presentations, and other project deliverables.
  • Analyse, interpret, and integrate geoscience data from a variety of geological samples
  • Mentor junior team members and collaborate closely with stakeholders across R&D, consultancy, and software development
  • Occasional overseas travel may be required for periods of up to one month at a time. This could include support for operational projects, attendance at industry conferences, or assisting with business development activities
