Argus Consulting undertakes tailor-made commissioned assignments for a wide variety of clients, including governments, national oil and energy companies, multi-nationals, the finance sector, energy traders, upstream, mid and downstream independents. Argus works across sectors including oil & gas, petrochemicals, fertilizers, hydrogen, biofuels and energy transition solutions.

What will you be doing?

Fertilizer and fertilizer raw material markets are a core and fast growing part of our consultancy offering. We are looking to expand our capacity through the appointment of a Manager with previous fertilizer/fertilizer raw materials experience who is looking to deliver assignments and develop relationships in this space.

The successful candidate can expect to work with blue chip clients including international fertilizer companies, investment banks and private equity, trading houses and national governments and energy companies. They may expect to work on engagements including:

  1. Equity and finance raise for new fertilizer investment (plants/mines etc)
  2. Major M&A deals alongside client teams
  3. Long-term strategic investment planning
  4. Market entry opportunity analysis and execution strategy

Our Consulting team of over 20 projects personnel in London and 80 worldwide has grown rapidly and has ambitious plans for further development. Managers demonstrating strong sector knowledge, managerial, client relationship and commercial skills can be promoted to Senior Manager positions with excellent opportunities for reward.

Key Responsibilities

Project delivery:You will be expected to support and ultimately lead engagements to respond to client enquiries, develop proposals, and win business in the fertilizer and fertilizer raw materials sectors. Our projects cover ammonia (traditional and clean), urea, nitrates, phosphates, potash, sulphur, NPKs, specialities and organics. You will work as part of a team and will be responsible for the quality of our consulting work that you deliver as well as for the work of that team. This includes the quality and timeliness of the end-deliverable, and the overall client experience of commissioning Argus to provide Consulting Services across all commodity sectors.

Business development:You will be responsible for working with Consulting leadership and the Argus sales team to develop a pipeline of consulting work. This will involve educating the sales team to help them identify opportunities in the marketplace and helping them qualify leads and then developing proposals as required. It will also involve working with Argus’ marketing department to promote consulting services through our publications, conferences etc.

People and Knowledge development:You will liaise with Argus staff to ensure current knowledge of Argus products and maintain current knowledge of major drivers and trends across commodity markets and to identify opportunities to promote services. You will be required to provide guidance to junior members of the team and provide subject matter training as required.

Skills and Experience

  • Fertilizers industry experience, most likely gained in either:
    • Consulting
    • Market analysis/reporting
    • Industry
  • Educated to degree level (2.1 or above) from a leading university.
  • Further education (e.g., MBA) a plus
  • Highly numerate with experience analysing data quickly and meticulously with excellent attention to detail and accuracy focus
  • Intellectually curious and able to demonstrate structured problem solving and analytical skills
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills
  • Capable of structuring and leading projects, including making a significant contribution to the sales process
  • Strong IT skills including advanced Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks to deadline and to meet targets
  • Flexible in approach, highly motivated and willing to contribute to the growth of Argus’ Consulting Services.
