About your team: 

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

Reporting to the Group Head of Environment, the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Programme Director is a pivotal role within our organisation, responsible for leading and managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of Centrica’s response to new and emerging mandatory programmatic ESG requirements including but not limited to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the EU Sustainability Taxonomy (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). 

This position requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of sustainability, regulatory and reporting frameworks, coupled with the ability to inspire and drive change across the organisation. 

Location:UK flexible with travel as required to Windsor/London

About the role:

We're looking for an experienced ESG Programme Director to lead in the development and execution of group-wide ESG compliance and change programmes such as CSRD/CSDDD. You'll develop any necessary scope of works and budgetary requirements for third party support, managing the procurement, on-boarding, direction and cost control of the service provision. You'll support the Group Head of Environment, to establish necessary reporting processes and controls and environmental policies, goals and targets required by ESG regulations, ensuring they are ambitious yet achievable, working across the businesses and key functions.

Further responsibilities will include:

Coordinate the development and implementation of ESG/Sustainability processes and initiatives across the group, ensuring compliance with all relevant requirements such as CSRD/CSDDD in a consistent and coherent way

Work with all functions and business units to coordinate the specification, identification, development and implementation of appropriate mechanisms for relevant data/metric capture including procuring and implementing new data systems where necessary

Working with the Environment, Responsible Business, Legal and Finance teams oversee the preparation and submission of compliant reporting in accordance with CSRD/CSDDD requirements

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders; run relevant Project Boards and enable the reporting of progress and performance to senior leaders. Executive Committee and the Board

Coordinate and facilitate internal communication and education on CSRD/CSDDD and related topics

Work with Group Finance to manage third party external assurance to prepare Centrica for successful limited assurance

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the CSRD/CSDDD programmes, adjusting strategies and tactics as needed to achieve goals

Here's what we're looking for:

Several years' of experience in ESG, sustainability, or related roles, with a proven track record of successful programme development and implementation.

ability to develop and implement long-term ESG strategies that align with Centrica’s strategy and purpose and drive sustainable impact

deep proficiency in managing complex programmes, ideally in large multi-national businesses, ensuring timely delivery and effective resource allocation

in-depth knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards, and regulations, ideally including those requiring programmatic implementation such as CSRD and EU Taxonomy and the ability to ensure compliance in a way that maximises value for Centrica

proven ability to lead and motivate through influence, and develop high-performing teams, including in a matrix organisation

strong skills in engaging and collaborating with diverse internal and external stakeholders

exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively

Education and Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, ESG, business administration or other relevant field. A master’s degree is preferred
