Main Responsibilities as an ESG Analyst

  • Specialised Knowledge Development: Build expertise in key ESG areas and contribute to a shared internal knowledge base.
  • Policy and Regulation Monitoring: Stay updated on ESG and sustainability policies, regulatory changes, and trends through horizon scanning.
  • Sector-Specific Insights: Create detailed insight reports for internal teams, clients, and prospective clients, tailored to specific sectors.
  • Advanced Research: Prepare in-depth background briefings using cutting-edge research tools, including AI technologies.
  • Benchmarking and Audits: Conduct peer reviews, benchmarking exercises, and sustainability communication audits for clients, identifying areas of strength and improvement.
  • Greenwashing Risk Assessment: Review client-facing content to identify and mitigate potential greenwashing risks.
  • Market Monitoring: Track key markets (UK, EU, US) using tools like Meltwater, compiling daily news summaries for internal and client use.
  • Social Listening: Utilise social listening tools to evaluate brand awareness, audience engagement, and message impact.
  • Insight Generation: Lead virtual focus groups to generate insights for behaviour-change campaigns and other initiatives.
  • Strategic Input: Produce audience insights to shape campaign strategies and create thought leadership content on emerging industry trends.


Core Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

Professional Experience

  • Proven background as an analyst or researcher in ESG consultancy, research organisations, or similar roles.

Educational Background

  • Strong academic credentials, including 'A' Levels (or equivalent) with grades B or above and at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Climate/Environmental Law, or Data Science/Analytics are highly beneficial.

ESG and Sustainability Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of sustainability topics, including social and environmental science, policies, regulations, and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with best practices and emerging trends in ESG strategy, compliance, sustainability reporting, and communications.

Research and Analytical Skills

  • Proficient in gathering, analysing, and interpreting ESG data, with a focus on risks, performance, engagement, and impact.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to transform findings into actionable insights.

Communication Skills

  • Exceptional ability to tailor and present insights effectively to diverse audiences, including executives, investors, consumers, employees, policymakers, and the general public.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, ensuring clarity and impact across all interactions.
