Electronic Engineer Role

We are looking for a talented and driven Electronic Engineer to join our innovative team. In this role you will be responsible for designing, developing and testing electronic systems and components to support our Venus LEVL probe project. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, reliable and cutting-edge solutions to meet client and project requirements. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic start-up company on challenging projects that push the boundaries of electronic engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Development:

  1. Design, source, prototype and test electronic circuits, systems and components.
  2. Produce breadboards, brassboards, PCB layout and daughterboards and be able to assemble with hand solder.
  3. Develop detailed circuit schematics and PCB layouts using tools like Altium, Eagle or KiCad.
  4. Demonstrable skills in modern C microcontroller firmware development for embedded devices and lightweight design.
  5. Good knowledge of low-power wireless communications, such as Zigbee, BLE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa, and RF.

Testing and Troubleshooting:

  1. Conduct performance analysis, debugging and troubleshooting of electronic systems using toolchains and emulators.
  2. Develop and execute testing plans to validate designs against technical specifications.

Documentation:

  1. Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports and user manuals.
  2. Knowledge of version control principles & experience using version control tools.
  3. Ensure compliance with UK and international standards (e.g. CE marking, EMC and safety standards).
  4. Work closely with mechanical, software and systems engineers to integrate electronic components into larger systems.
  5. Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers and stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery.
  6. Research and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve system performance and efficiency.
  7. Optimize existing designs for cost, reliability and manufacturability.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Professional registration with a recognised body (e.g., IET) or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is desirable.

Experience:

  1. Proven experience in electronic design and development (we will ask for references).
  2. Knowledge of analogue and digital circuit design, including microcontroller-based systems.
  3. Familiarity with embedded systems and firmware development is a plus.
  4. Proficiency in PCB design tools and simulation software.
  5. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  6. Knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements.
  7. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  8. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  9. Experience with FPGA development.
  10. Machine learning and sensor fusion.
  11. Image sensor integration.
  12. Knowledge of managing power cycle budgets.

You will also have a say in how the electronics department grows and the kit we will buy. Your ideas and contributions could shape the company's direction, with the opportunity to be part of something from the ground up and leave a lasting impact.

Newquay is a fantastic place with many beautiful beaches, world-class surfing, coastal walks and a train station only 15 minutes from our headquarters.

We work from Spaceport Cornwall in a modern building with kitchens, showers and conference rooms.

We operate a late start scheme at 10 am and finish at 6 pm.
