An innovative engineering consultancy based in Birmingham is actively looking for a Digital Transformation Lead to drive the adoption of AI and machine learning across their operational systems and technology platforms.

This is a career-defining opportunity for someone who understands how to strategically embed AI/ML into business workflows, automate processes, and create intelligent, interconnected systems that drive measurable improvements in performance, safety, and efficiency. You’ll be part of a wider digital transformation initiative, playing a lead role in shaping technical direction and mentoring cross-functional teams.

The business is known for tackling complex technical projects in construction, infrastructure, and heavy engineering - and they’re investing heavily in data and smart technology to stay ahead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and deliver a digital transformation roadmap, with a strong focus on AI/ML integration

  • Design and implement machine learning models to improve operational performance and decision-making

  • Build automation pipelines and connect fragmented systems used across construction/engineering workflows

  • Lead on data collection, cleansing, structuring and secure storage to support AI initiatives

  • Collaborate with technical and operational teams to identify automation opportunities and tech bottlenecks

  • Develop proof-of-concepts and MVPs to trial new technologies before rollout

  • Stay hands-on with the latest tools and frameworks while providing strategic direction

  • Champion a culture of innovation and digital-first thinking across the business

    Key Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience delivering AI/ML or smart tech solutions in the construction, infrastructure, or engineering space

  • Strong programming background, ideally in Python, but other languages like Java or C++ also welcome

  • Experience working with frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn

  • Familiar with interoperability and API development across common construction/engineering software

  • Hands-on experience with data pipelines, security standards, and version control tools (Git, etc.)

  • Strategic mindset, able to align technical improvements with business goals

  • Confident communicator, capable of translating complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Background in Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Science (BSc or MSc preferred)

  • Strong leadership ability, you’ll be guiding others through change and upskilling where needed

    What’s On Offer:

  • Up to £90k depending on experience

  • Key strategic role in a company undergoing major digital evolution

  • Hybrid working available, based in Oxfordshire with some travel to project sites

  • Collaborative, innovation-driven environment with strong technical leadership

  • Personal development budget and access to ongoing training

This role is perfect for someone who’s led or contributed to large-scale digital projects and is now ready to step into a highly visible, influential position where AI/ML will directly shape the future of technical operations.
