About the IT Manager role
We are seeking a technically skilled and strategically minded professional to lead digital transformation initiatives that support our mission to protect and enhance the environment. You’ll play a critical role in modernising legacy systems and embedding secure, sustainable, user-focused technologies.
Working with partners in Digital, Data, Technology and Security (DDTS), you’ll be the "intelligent client," translating business needs into technical delivery and ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
IT Manager - Key responsibilities


  • Lead the transformation of outdated IT systems to secure, scalable platforms.

  • Guide technical design and vendor selection for major digital projects.

  • Manage cyber security risk and system resilience.

  • Ensure delivery partners meet technical standards and user needs.

  • Shape and support digital investment planning and business cases.

About the team
You’ll join the Technology Governance – Digital and IT team, part of our Strategy, Transformation and Assurance department. Our mission is to enable the Environment Agency’s strategic goals through the smart use of technology and data.

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:


  • Proven experience in technical consulting, software engineering, or IT system implementation within large or complex organisations.

  • Project management expertise in delivering complex digital initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge of cyber security risk and IT governance.

  • The ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience acting as an intelligent client with suppliers and internal teams.

  • A strong interest in environmental sustainability and the mission of the Environment Agency.
