As a Data Scientist or Senior Data Scientist, you’ll work on high-impact projects using machine learning, NLP, computer vision, and time series analysis. This is meaningful, purpose-led work at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious digital transformation programmes.


Job description
What You’ll Do:


  1. Understand where Data Science can add value within HM Land Registry
  2. Apply advanced techniques across NLP, vision, and more
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation
  4. Contribute to a culture of learning, mentoring, and inclusion
  5. Lead projects and mentor others (for senior roles)

What We’re Looking For:


  1. Experience in data science or machine learning
  2. Proficiency in Python, R, or similar
  3. Knowledge of NLP, time series, or vision techniques
  4. A collaborative mindset and a drive to make a difference

Salary Information

For HEO Data Scientists: HM Land Registry is implementing a capability-based pay model. The salary may include a non-contractual, non-pensionable pay supplement based on your assessed capability, starting in January 2026. Salaries range from £41,100 (Developing) to £44,400 (Accomplished).


For SEO Senior Data Scientists: £46,058 - £57,400. This role is eligible for the Government Digital and Data Capability Framework.


Qualifications

A degree in a discipline with numerical or statistical elements; OR equivalent experience. For SEO, a degree or demonstrable portfolio of data science and machine learning is required.


Location

Multiple locations across England and Wales, including Birkenhead, Croydon, Coventry, Durham, Weymouth, Gloucester, Kingston upon Hull, Leicester, Nottingham, Peterborough, Plymouth, Warton, Swansea, and Telford.
