Data Scientist (Geology / Geostatistics Focus) – Data Scientist (Geology / Geostatistics Focus) role at Robert Walters. Are you a Data Scientist with a passion for geoscience, or a Geologist eager to apply data science to solve real-world mining challenges? We’re looking for a talented and motivated individual to join our team in a unique cross-disciplinary role. You’ll work closely with development teams, product owners, and subject matter experts to transform geological and mining data into actionable insights using advanced analytics and spatial modelling techniques. This role is at the cutting edge of mining technology, enabling smarter decisions and deeper understanding of subsurface data through data science.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data science capabilities into software products.
  • Analyze and interpret complex geological and mining datasets to produce actionable insights.
  • Support a variety of innovative projects, such as:
  • Inferring rock properties from drilling data
  • Merging primary and response rock properties using machine learning
  • Applying self-learning models to geological data
  • Build and deploy data-driven solutions that enhance geological decision-making.
  • Apply spatial data analysis techniques to improve interpretation of subsurface information.

What We're Looking For

  • Background in data science with a focus on geostatistics/geology, or geology with strong data science experience
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with data analysis, modelling, and visualization tools
  • Understanding of spatial/geospatial data concepts
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical insights to non-technical stakeholders
  • Team-oriented mindset and ability to work in a collaborative environment

Preferred (Bonus) Skills

  • Familiarity with machine learning and self-learning algorithms
  • Experience working with geological and mining datasets
  • Understanding of software development tools and workflows
  • Exposure to 3D data modelling or geological simulation tools
