This is an exciting opportunity to join the iCARE team Health Data scientist , you will lead the delivery of programmes of work in Digital Health that will evidence improvements in direct patient care, NHS operational decision making to improve efficiency and productivity and advancing research, innovation & commercial opportunities.


The role will support the iCARE Director and the strategy for delivering on the most immediate priorities in Digital Health across the national and international healthcare landscape.


iCARE provides a unique platform enabling routinely collected health data to be used for research, evaluation, and direct care returns. Supported by a multidisciplinary team of talented people with a broad range of backgrounds; from clinicians to data engineers, clinical analysts to data scientists and academics, the iCARE team is delivering a programme of translational clinical analytics and research to deliver new insights, developments, and interventions, and monitoring their impact in healthcare through continuous real-time evaluation in a learning health system.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the iCARE team you will directly contribute to and lead on the delivery of a portfolio of translational projects within the Digital Health theme of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Imperial Biomedical Research Centre, a £95 million translational research initiative for new treatments, diagnostics and technologies, that benefit patients and communities locally, regionally and nationally. The Digital Health theme links to the UK Government’s ‘Data saves lives’ vision, which sets out aims for data and digital technology to be used in a safe, trusted and transparent way to improve health.


The role will directly support the teams strengths in data collaboration, clinical informatics and artificial intelligence to create and evaluate digital and data-driven tools that support and improve the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
By working with expert stakeholders across multiple disciplines, you will work to address priorities that respond to the needs and preferences of our patients, staff and local communities towards social purpose and care equity during the ongoing digital transformation of the NHS.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

Educated to degree level in a technical subject, such as Statistics, Mathematics or Computer Science, and or equivalent experience and specialist knowledge across a number of data science areas at post graduate level


Relevant experience within a similar role.

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of use of data to derive conclusions and use those to suggest actions and results. Contributions to published work (audit/ research)


Experience of producing software and maintaining, developing and improving software in response to ongoing developments and changes
Experience in assisting people with complex data management issues and resolving queries.
Experience in the day-to-day management and coordination of staff including the allocation and prioritisation of work to staff.
Experience in handling patient- (or person) level data and managing complex and sensitive issues in organisations.
Proven experience of communicating highly complicated, difficult to explain issues to technical and non-technical contacts.

Desirable criteria

Working knowledge of key data sources and types – PAS, EHR,SACT, RTDS, HES, Imaging, PROMS

Skills/ Abilities

Essential criteria

Strong skills in MLOPs, Azure Machine Learning and Snowflake


Data management expertise, with a focus on Information Governance, security and robustness
Ability to maintain code processes using software such as Python, R with ability to identify innovative uses of data
Predictive modelling via supervised or unsupervised machine learning.
Creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), which can be referred to by other members of the team.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Specialist knowledge and development expertise in using SQL, Python and R, including use of relevant packages (e.g. Pandas, Scikit-learn).


In-depth knowledge and understanding of mandatory reporting requirements, NHS data standards and definitions
Knowledge of extracting and analysing data, identifying trends and presenting reports
