Data Scientist (at the rank of Research Officer / Assistant Research Officer)in theHong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention within the Faculty of Social Sciences(Ref.: 532371)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work on mental health-related projects.
  • Write research proposals, scientific publications, and reports.
  • Collaborate with team members to formulate and write the data analytics strategy and build relevant reports.
  • Monitor data, perform data analysis, and visualize findings to support decision-making for various teams.
  • Enhance dashboards and support the delivery of regular reports.
  • Liaise with internal and external parties to facilitate research activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in data science, statistics, psychology, public health, social sciences, or related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, data mining, predictive modeling, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or R.
  • Experience in analyzing both quantitative and qualitative research data.
  • Experience in statistical consulting, dashboard development, and data visualization.
  • Knowledge of databases, natural language processing, and spatial analysis is preferred.
  • Ability to monitor, analyze, and manage data to meet project needs.
  • Strong leadership qualities, self-motivation, and a sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Capability to handle tight schedules and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese).
  • Experience in mental health projects in Hong Kong is highly advantageous.
  • Candidates with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Research officer.

What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. Other benefits include annual leave, medical benefits and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.
