As Data Scientist, you will collaborate as a team to develop innovative solutions to societal and National Challenges; including
- Life Sciences & Health
- Climate Science
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Security and resilience - NPL
Excitingly, this role offers scope to develop new collaborations across NPL, government, industry, and academia. You’ll enjoy developing, applying and sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues, collaborators, and the wider scientific community.

About You
As Data Scientist, you will be covering both the application of machine learning methods to specific problems, as well as general aspects of quality management, risk management, testing and assessment of machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) systems that include machine learning.
Essential experience:
- A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or relevant science or engineering discipline.
- A PhD in a relevant subject or significant relevant working experience
- Experience in coding in Python and/or MATLAB.
- Experience in mathematical modelling and/or data analysis.
- Confidence in report writing and literature review.
- Experience working in a cross-disciplinary environment
Desirable experience:
- Experience of research in any area of autonomous systems.
- Uncertainty quantification.
- Experience of operating and building Virtual Test Environments or Simulators e.g. packages such as CARLA.
- Experience in object tracking or mapping software.
- Knowledge of systems engineering test and evaluation principles (Validation and Verification processes)
