NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is one of two 10 session substantive posts within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Liaison Psychiatry Service.
The post holder will be part of a team of Liaison Psychiatry Consultants, Nursing Staff and Psychologists, who provide Liaison Psychiatry services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The Liaison posts would be based at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and provide liaison medical cover to other Greater Glasgow and Clyde hospitals when required.
The post holder will be required to provide liaison input the acute hospitals – both into the wards and A&E departments within GG&C depending upon clinical activity.
The post holder undertake on call duties as part of the North or South Glasgow On-Call Rota – currently approximately 1 in 24. There is dedicated secretarial support for the post. Core trainees from the Glasgow training schemes rotate through Liaison Psychiatry at GRI and QEUH.

There are FY2 Posts shared with Acute Medicine. The post holder will be encouraged to be a Higher Trainer. The applicant must hold the MRCPsych or equivalent and must have ( or be within 6 months of) their CCT. Of the two posts, one post will be formed of 8 sessions (0.8 WTE) within liaison psychiatry and 2 sessions (0.2 WTE) as part of a Senior NHS GG&C Research Fellowship to a total of 10 sessions (1.0 WTE).
A Senior NHS GG&C Research Fellowship (two research sessions, 0.2 WTE) is attached to this post for the purpose of supporting clinical research activities in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The sessions are available for the applicant to undertake research with the agreement to prioritise non-commercial externally funded studies and commercial clinical trials across Adult Mental Health Services (including Specialist Mental Health Services).
Research sessions are awarded for 12 months in the first instance and the applicant is eligible to reapply for this fellowship funding provided satisfactory research activity is maintained during the period.
Performance is judged by:
• Participation in industry sponsored trials
• Participation in hosted and sponsored academic research
• Generation of research income from grants and other awards
• Attendance at key research meetings
Progress will be monitored using research activity and study participant recruitment metrics.
