About the role

We are looking for an experienced Computer Vision Engineer with a strong software engineering background to join our Manchester (UK) team of leading professionals who are developing all the way to self-checkout payment and exit. Artificial intelligence is just one component of this innovative solution, and a significant amount of additional system logic is also required. In this role, you will collaborate with colleagues in Belgrade and Manchester to implement new AI models into existing solutions.

Being constantly challenged with new ideas, you will be expected to proactively suggest improvements that will benefit both the system and the overall process, while your core duties will be focused on:

  • Developing algorithms for detecting specific customer actions.
  • Recognising suspicious customer behaviour (behaviour analysis).
  • Solving and improving existing algorithms for product tracking, motion, and movement analysis.
  • Accelerating existing parts of the system.
  • Improving system accuracy by integrating new models and algorithms for human action analysis.
What will make you a good fit?

To successfully perform and grow in this role, we expect prospective candidates to have:

  • A solid understanding of detection and feature extraction.
  • Excellent knowledge of Python.
  • Strong understanding and experience with libraries such as OpenCV, NumPy, and PyTorch.
  • Basic knowledge of Docker.
  • Professional curiosity and self-motivation to follow new trends in the field where standards and technologies evolve very quickly.
You will stand out if you can bring
  • Hands-on experience in computer vision algorithms such as tracking, optical flow, and feature matching.
  • Experience with OpenVINO or TensorRT.
  • Experience in working with vector databases or similar structures for fast feature search.
Why Join Us?
  • Be part of a team with a global industry impact.
  • Enjoy work-life balance and culture of mutual respect and trust.
  • Opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.

This role is based in Manchester, UK, and candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK.

If you see yourself as part of a hyper-innovative international tech team, send us your application and CV now. After careful consideration of the applications, we will contact the shortlisted candidates.

By applying for this position, you confirm that you agree that the personal data you gave can be collected, used and processed for the purposes of applicant selection in the recruitment process.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in AI Job Applications (UK Guide)

Hiring managers do not start by reading your CV line-by-line. They scan for signals. In AI roles especially, they are looking for proof that you can ship, learn fast, communicate clearly & work safely with data and systems. The best applications make those signals obvious in the first 10–20 seconds. This guide breaks down what hiring managers typically look for first in AI applications in the UK market, how to present it on your CV, LinkedIn & portfolio, and the most common reasons strong candidates get overlooked. Use it as a checklist to tighten your application before you click apply.

The Skills Gap in AI Jobs: What Universities Aren’t Teaching

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept. It is already reshaping how businesses operate, how decisions are made, and how entire industries compete. From finance and healthcare to retail, manufacturing, defence, and climate science, AI is embedded in critical systems across the UK economy. Yet despite unprecedented demand for AI talent, employers continue to report severe recruitment challenges. Vacancies remain open for months. Salaries rise year on year. Candidates with impressive academic credentials often fail technical interviews. At the heart of this disconnect lies a growing and uncomfortable truth: Universities are not fully preparing graduates for real-world AI jobs. This article explores the AI skills gap in depth—what is missing from many university programmes, why the gap persists, what employers actually want, and how jobseekers can bridge the divide to build a successful career in artificial intelligence.
