About the Business

This is a high-growth, UK-based artificial intelligence startup building a B2B SaaS platform for general practice accountants - designed to transform how firms manage compliance and unlock tax opportunities.

The platform helps accountants:

Detect tax compliance issues before HMRC submission.

Identify valuable tax planning opportunities that might otherwise be missed.

In a recent pilot, the product uncovered £3.6 million in tax relief across just 5,486 clients. With over 1,100 accountants on the waitlist, recent pre-seed funding secured, and an ambitious scale-up plan, this is a unique opportunity to get in early and shape something extraordinary.

Why This Role?

We're hiring an experienced and strategic Chief Tax Officer to lead the Tax Knowledge function - a critical pillar in the business. This is not your traditional in-house compliance role. You'll operate at the intersection of AI, structured tax knowledge, and expert reasoning, helping to build a product that feels like having a CTA on the team 24/7/365.

This is an exciting chance to code tax knowledge into logic that drives powerful software.

Create and manage detailed tax ontologies, classifications, and knowledge bases.

Develop Rule-Based Reasoning Systems

Build systems that simulate expert decision-making and automate tax logic - The Tech team will be working with you on this!

Collaborate with Tax Experts

Work alongside subject matter experts to validate and refine rules and structured knowledge.

Keep Logic Current and Legally Accurate

Maintain alignment with evolving legislation, HMRC guidance, and legal precedents.

Contribute to Platform Architecture

Help shape the design of scalable, transparent knowledge systems for long-term growth.

What We're Looking For

✔️ Strong UK tax experience (likely CTA-qualified or equivalent)
✔️ Deep understanding of corporate tax, compliance, and advisory logic
✔️ Systems-focused mindset - excited by structure, automation, and AI
✔️ Collaborative and curious - enjoys solving complex challenges with others
✔️ Ready to step away from "traditional" roles and build something new

What's in it for You?

Opportunity to work at the cutting edge of AI + tax
Remote-first working with quarterly meetups (London/York - travel paid)
Autonomy and ownership in an early-stage tech business
Work that's meaningful and future-focused
